Yes, our situation did change dramatically after we applied for my wife´s PR visa. We wanted to delay it, but that required doing the security thing all over again, etc...
So, now we have to complete it and get the PR visa before it expires, which is going to be very soon after Manilla confirms that everything is complete.
Sorry, one more question I should have asked in the previous one; Will the PR visa be granted at the airport by the immigration officials? That would answer ´how long she needs to stay in Canada for?´
BTW, she doesn´t need a bank account, SIN, etc... at this time. We just don´t want to have to go through all that work to get the visa again.
Thanks to those of you who know how to be constructive.

Hi Mach,

The Canadian embassy will issue the visa. Your wife will have to land in Canada before the expiry of the visa to complete the process and become a PR of Canada.

Once she becomes a PR and enters Canada it is her decision how long she wants to stay there. To maintain the PR status she has to live in Canada for a period of 2 years out of 5 starting from the day she lands in Canada.

It seems every time I turn around, my wife is telling me something new that she says she knows.
I read and heard the 2 out of 5 years thing as well. Now, my wife has just told me that if we live TOGETHER, even outside of Canada, the 2 out of 5 year thing doesn´t apply. Sounds strange to me. Won´t be a problem as I can´t live in my current country much longer anyway before I finally go nuts. ;-)
Just curious, if you come back to read this and have time; do you know the process of how things operate from landing in the airport and getting a PR visa? Is it just a stamp in a passport, is it a card that needs to be applied for (must it be from within Canada/can it just be sent to my parents´ place and then forwarded to an outside country?)?
Thank you very much

Are you a Canadian citizen? If you are then the time both of you spend together outside Canada can be counted to comply with your wife´s residency obligations. Please not that you should keep documented proof that you lived together to prove to the immigration officials that she did maintain her residency obligations.

Please visit the following link for details:

When your wife lands in Canada as a PR the immigration official will ask her to provide an address in Canada where they will mail her PR card. Your wife can give the address of your parents and they can mail it to you.

If for some reason she does not get her PR card or it gets lost she can apply for a travel document if and when she wants to return to Canada.

Thank you so much Kenny.
I will re-check the cic site.
I am indeed Canadian. It´s been so long since I´ve lived there I doubt I can sing the National anthem anymore. ;-)
Cheers
