Hi,
I just got a request from Buffalo to submit IELTS and TEF test result within 120 days. I am really worried.
How should i prepare for IELTS.Can u guys suggest me some good materials.
For TEF what i shoudl do and how is the exam. i just claimed for basic proficiency since i dont have background in french. i took some basic classes. If i dont take TEF exam and just take IELTS will my case be rejected.
What should i do.Please someone suggest me

You have to take both tests if they requested it. I just took the TEF, it´s a long (4 hour) test where they base your level on different ranges of questions varying in degrees of difficulties. So don´t get freaked out. Answer only the ones that you think you can handle. Search for CIC TEF in the internet and that will give you the centers where you can take it. Contact the center nearest you and ASK FOR A SAMPLE BOOKLET containing sample tests and tapes. YOU MUST STUDY THEM BEFORE TAKING THE TEST! Since you´re only going for basic, don´t worry about not answering all questions. NEVER GUESS since no answer is better than a wrong answer. Also, all instructions are in French. There is lots to prepare for this so I suggest you get tutoring, available at the test centers. Both the test and tutoring costs a bundle so be prepared for the cost, from $250 - $295 for the test and $48/hour for tutoring. You have to take ALL parts of the test, including Oral and Written Expression. Sorry, but these are the facts. Good luck!

i guess u have to take the test as u have claimed points for both i know u have claimed bare minimum points in TEF but they want u to show them on paper, so u have to take it my friend no other option take both of them as soon as possible and good luck

sara - you only need to take TEF if they tell you to take it or if you need the points.

Catocan,
I claimed basic points for TEF. Now they asked me to take TEF. but i am also ok without the points.I still have more than pass mark even if i dont take TEF. so if i dont take TEF will they reject my application since they have asked me to take it.

IMHO, yes I would take the TEF if they ask you to, otherwise that would leave a "discrepancy". But if you don´t need to take the points, why have they asked you? Are you going to Quebec? In taht case yes, you definitely need the French.

if you have the points and you are not seeking Quebec settlement - I would be inclinded to let the officer give you as they see fit. However, if you are seeking Quebec selection and they have made the request... I would strongly suggest you do it or you may be risking rejection.

I don´t pretend to be a CIC officer and I will be curious how others see this... but if you don´t want to do the test because your skills are less than what you implied, then can you take your chances of zero for your second language.
Not sure why you would put down french as a second language if you were not prepared to substantiate it. You may flag an interview to confirm your other info - who knows in this world of CIC.
Just don´t kick yourself or cry to anyone here if they give you no points.
