Some news from an consultant website....

As the year winds down we are gearing up for a new federal election
in January and some great times ahead. The good news is that the Canadian immigration department has committed huge sums of money to process more immigration applications, reduce processing time and provide more settlement services to immigrants to help them get established faster. The scary news is that they are also announcing changes to the immigration system. If the Conservative Party wins, I will not be surprised if they introduce a new immigration system, similar to the previous one, where only those with certain occupations could get admitted. Right now the system is open to many people aged mainly between 21 and 50, with higher education, some work experience, and English and/or French capability. The only certain thing right now is that nothing will change until after the election - for at least 3 months.

If rules change? which ones would apply - one at time of application or one that at time of finalization?

Guys, don´t do this to yourselves. just relax and wait. there is absolutely nothing to indicate major changes at the moment and if there are... it will take months to impliment.

the only area I see potential changes is to allow more specific skills into the country on a temporary permit because Canada simply needs certain trades that are not arriving through the regular CIC channels.

sorry sharon (in reply to: Change of Goverment - impact?)
dear sharon,
i hope i am not hurting you.But I have to tell that you are speaking as if the secretary to the Immigration minister.Otherwise , how can you be so sure that there will be no change in the points.I strongly feel that once the new government comes to power they will increase the points to 70 or perhaps 75.

I don´t get it, I saw on the canadiandesi.com website, in a poll survey, the Tories are far ahead. Remember the respondants are mostly would be Canadians, and mostly Asians.
So proves you wrong Syd!!!...
Sharon might be right????

If CIC uses the rules at the time of finalization of application as against at the time of filing, I personally think thats ethically wrong. It is similar to the fact that if you go to Walmart the price shown in $1 and when you are checking out, they say its $100. People file the application based on what they are told at a given point of time. Changing rules while the game is on is not fair. I have heard the debate that PR is a prelivilege and not a right..etc etc.

my two cents.

ME is correct. If CIC changes criteria (points), it would have to apply to new applications. In process files would be unaffected.

As a note in disagreement. Although older SW applicants are penalized per year over 50, they usually have extensive quality work experience, additional education, and stronger finances (savings) that often overcomes this deduction. So I wouldn´t say CIC strictly targets the 21-50 age group when considering these factors.

Well guys if things really change then I do not think that will affect the ones who have already applied for immigration, that is not legal, just remember the old times when they changed the pass total of points, that time as far as I remember that didnt affected the ones who have already had they files started processing, so no worries for the ones who have already started their process...

Guys, it is stated clearly in the forms . The prevailing rules will be used in adjudicating all applications ie if the points change , then the new points will be used in finalizing all applications , irrespectitive of when you applied .
They tell you up front before you apply . I seriously hope they dont change the rules , cos i will be affected as well .
