I understand that any sort of potential change makes people nervous. I am here to tell you that

1) IF there was changes made - there is absolutely nothing you could do about it anyway, so there is absolutely no purpose in speculating how, when, what, if, scenario 1-5, outcomes etc. If you are bored and want something to do - go for a walk.

2) You are all assuming that a change in government might make your immigration application more difficult. what makes you think that? How do you know a new government won´t stop this mindless method of making you wait years on end to know your future. Would that be a happy thing??? Personally, I think yes.

3) you are assuming that points will go up. Education levels are not Canada´s problem. Skill matching is. Raising the points won´t solve that. Finding ways to elevate the qualifications of skilled tradesmen would do more to solve the problem than raising the qualification bar! Based on the yelling that is going on in the business sections of the newspaper... I foresee a secondary program that might fast track some of you in the system with specific skills - would that be a bad thing? Who knows, perhaps there will be more opportunities for Work permits while CIC processes your PR application. would that be so bad?????

4) regardless of what changes might come - they will not happen over night. Canadian politics does not work that way. Look at John Volpe´s announcements. His money promises have been out there for months and they will not take effect until next year. I call that snails pace progress. It does not give me any sense of urgency, angst or hope.

Given how much we all bitterly complain about our current CIC system, I am amazed at how anxious we are to make sure nothing changes. CIC is desperate for reform. We need a system that will let you have answers in a reasonable time frame. Canada needs workers with specific skills. E-case needs to become relevant. Spouses need fair hearings on their applications - I don´t know about you... but any sign of this sort of policy change would have me dancing in the street.

sharon, how about stop posting these kind of posts?
lately, other than putting people down everytime they are anxious about possible changes, you don´t post any useful posts.
it is absolutely normal for people in the system to be affraid of any changes in the point system. since the last ellections, when the pass mark has been lowered, created the 800,000 files backlog, it is normal to expect that any changes in the pass mark would be up and not down.
So everybody has the right to be calm, anxious, patient or go crazy.
you don´t have any right to tell people what to do, and believe me, if I feel I want to go for a walk I go. I don´t have to check your posts to see if I have your permission.

there have been 2 elections since the pass mark was reduced and different 3 immigration ministers.

The original thread which I was responding to was a serious of posts that were spiraling into huge fearful speculation. When you do not read a Canadian newspaper every day, or do not fully understand how our system works it is easy to become anxious.

My post has been intended as helpful. It has nothing to do with putting people down. I simply want to encourage them to not worry - nothing more.

I agree with Mircea...

"so there is absolutely no purpose in speculating how, when, what, if, scenario 1-5, outcomes etc. If you are bored and want something to do - go for a walk."

Sounds like Sharon has some sort of hatrid built up towards the system herself, thus she should take her own advice.

Sharon is kind of right, ya know. Everyone is assuming things will only get worse. But why? Couldn´t you assume that it will at least stay the same and possibly improve in the future?

And if it does perhaps get worse, by the time the changes come into effect, you will already be happily in Canada and have forgotten the thing.

After you finally come to Canada, will you start lobbying against the gov´t to make improvements for other generations to come? My guess is NO. You´ll just simply put it in your past and move on like so many others did that came before you.

Timothy... thank you. finally someone understands my post. Of course I don´t like the current system. I have not met anyone that does.

What has disturbed me is how it is automatically assumed that any change in government could through the entire system into disarray. You are right, I should also go for my own walk. I just hate seeing people stressed more than is warranted. Things are hard enough without adding mythical possibilities.

No doubt there will be some immigration proposals put out there by the various parties during the next 6 weeks. Then we will have something concrete to look at.

I initial post was not meant to create fear but start an healthy debate - and it solved the purpose.

There are two different issues with this whole affair:

A. Whether the pass marks go up or down - that not in our control and most likely not relevant, subject to:

B. Whether new rules (marks) are applied to existing applications - again not in our control but highly relevant. Changing rules midway in the process is not fair. For new applicants, that should be OK since they know what they are getting into.

Sharon - keep your posts coming, you do provide a different view point - which have changed over the last few months since I have started reading your posts. None the less, they are good.

ME,

To continue your healthy debate;

A. Why would the pass mark need to change just because we may get a different gov´t party running the show?

B. You are assuming that rules will change and change for the worse. What if the rules change for the better(it is possible ya know)? Would you still say its unfair to change rules midway in the process?

Sharon and me stand on opposite sides when it comes to politics, and I´ve spelt out some of my reasons for being wary of Harper in another post.

However I will agree with her that, in the short-term at least, there is little reason to fear what the Tories might do with regard to immigration.

Even if the pass mark is raised, this is unlikely to to be enforced on those whose applications are already in the system. There are legal implications of making the rules more stringent mid-stream, and you can be sure pro-immigrant groups will take the issue to court if the Tories decide to enforce a higher passmark for those who would have cleared it under the current rules.

Fellas!

Chill out! We know "rights" and ´fredom of choices". But don´t you think Sharon did a great job by putting some oinment on the wound, even it burns? Some of us are anxious abt up coming election. We are anxious because we are in the pipe line of the immigration process. We must be worried and share some of those in the open-forum discussion. Now if someone comfort us by showing the reality and past experience, whuz the problem? Its her right too to comfort if she knows how to do that?

Think of those 2000 applicants who are still in the pipeline and falling behind every single day from us who just applied a year ago. Letz hope for the best...because hope is the best power of our dream for tomorrow.

Y´all take it easy (for goodness sake, don´t fire me now ;))
