Subject: new born baby to Canadian Immigrant
  Hi,
I am a Canadian PR holder and my wife just got residency approval. Her visa will expire on 13 May 2006, so she must be there before this date. Currently we are living in Saudia and my wife is expecting to deliver in July 2006.

Right now, I am planning to take her to Canada so that she makes her entry over there and then we can come back.

I want to know if a baby is born in Saudia, then what is the procedure for applying immigration to a newly born baby. Is it just like the same as sponsoring a spouse?

Is it a good decision to stay in Saudia and have a baby here or should we leave for Canada.

Thanks.

yes, its more or less the same procedure, the best option is to have the baby in canada, will save you time and money of sponsering him.
worste is to have him before landing, will invalidate visa

Best option is to move to Canada and have the baby there.

Check how long it takes to get medical insurance in the province you are planning to settle. In Ontario it takes 3 months to get the medical insurance so plan accordingly.

As some people already said the best option is to go to Canada as soon as possible and have the baby there and be prepared for that, I mean financially prepare yourself to be able to have the baby over there... If you keep waiting for the baby in your place your wife might jeopardise her right to land in Canada as an immigrant and later you might need a lot of time and spend a lot of money to take her back to Canada... good luck

If you are coming to Ontario, I believe you have to live here for four (4) months before you start receiving health coverage.

Without health coverage you are looking at more that 10K to have a baby in Canada.

If your wife have the baby outside, she will have to update her papers with CIC and will have to redo her medical, and the baby will also need to have a medical done, you will also need to pay the application fee to add the baby to your wife´s application.

If your wife have the baby in Canada she will have to be here in advance to activate the medical coverage or pay the hospital cost.

You mention that you are a PR and living in Saudia and sponsoring your wife, how long have you been living in Saudia with your wife? Because as far as I know if you hold PR status you are not allowed to live outside Canada while your wife´s application is in process.

Thanks for the replies. I was in Canada when my wife sponsorship was approved and he got her visa. After that, I got an offer from Saudia and I came here and then my wife also joined me.

Regarding health coverage, is it possible to take private health insurance until she gets Ontario health coverage. As far as I know, it takes 3 months to be eligible for Ontario health coverage after landing.
