Background check is basically to find your criminal records. They will not check for your employment or education.

dell how do u so sure they won´t check ur employment or educational background??
one of my relatives couple applied in CIC Singapore. they had got interview n they flew to Singapore, the wife was asked about a computer program related Q. she couldn´t answer, they were refused having visa. she confessed to us that the certificate she submitted about computer proficiency was fake. She´s got Canadian passport holder siblings in Canada. her husband was principal applicant. This was happened before 3yrs ago. she really don´t know whether they really had checked her educational background or not. but true is that the diploma certificate was fake. both o them r postgraduate and r doing good job. so guys be careful
good luck

Background check is done by visa post processing application, with help of other visa posts in countries where education and experience credentials may came from. It verifies your claimed background data, educational and experience credentials.

Security check (also called background/security check) is conducted completely outside Immigration by Canadian intelligence and security agencies, with or without cooperation of proper authorities in all countries you resided in since age 18 (for some national since age 16). It looks deep (very deep) into your background, life, activities and associations to see if you are or ever were involved and/or are or were associated in any way with someone who is or was involved in terrorism, espionage, organized crime, crimes against humanity, radical groups, etc.

This check usually starts after successful interview or interview waiver (In most cases). Depending on your background, nationality, countries you resided in and other factors it may take anywhere from a few months to well over a year to complete.

Hey cherishman
Giving accurate answers or not for some questions at the interview can no way be called BG check. All applicants should give accurate and correct answers on their education , reason to go to Canada or their experience, and it all depends on how much you satisfy the immigration officer or how much you justify yourself with your answers, so an immigration officer may not feel satisfied and you may fail at an interview, as Kenny said above BG check is security related issues...
G´day

Actully I´ve very little idea bout CIC rules. I didn´t mean appearing in interview and answering wrong or can´t is called BG check. sorry for making the confusion.
What i wan to say is that,´ they wont check for your employment or educational back ground´´ this is very wrong.

we can assume that all documents and back ground are up for scrutiny until the day they request your passport. Nobody seems to know if there is a hard and fast rule about any of it. If you have a interview and something does not seem right... I am sure CIC will check into it further. Is that a background check and does it really matter what we call it.

Suffice to know that we are all being investigated until that PP request letter arrives.
