Subject: What are other methods of proving English
  Hi
I am about to make an application to CIC for PR status.

Seeking your help to know how can i prove that I am good in english other than taking and passing the IELTS Exam.

What other document other than the IELTS Certificate will be accepted by the CIC to prove my ability in english?

Appreciate your help !!!

I guess that if you are from a developed english specking country you do not need to prove anything to the CIC. Usually its better to write the IELTS or the TOEFL and forget the pain of proving to the CIC that you speak english. Now you will get good marks in the IELTS if you truly are good in english. If not, thats why the CIC is asking for a proof. Normlly even if you have had an education in english but you are not from an english speaking country, CIC will ask you to submit a test result etc.

Its better to send all docs that the CIC asks for in the first place than sending half complete stuff, because that wastes more time than the time you would spend on sending them a complete document set.

Go for the IELTS and get it over with !

All the best !

Hi applicant,

I also did not take IELTS and made it. I submitted a two-page explanation (detailed) defending my knowledge of the English Language. How I use English in my everyday life. I mentioned about how English is being used in my home country...in school....place of work....church and just about everywhere. I also submitted TONS of certificates from people who can support my claim. It looks like a lot of work but not really. I got certificates from my banker...my church...my work place...my co-worker...you know...those people who really know you. All these certificates were notarized.

But if you will ask me now, I think score of 7 in every subject in the IELTS test will give you much peace of mind.

I suggest that you prepare the certificates and submit your application to CIC without the IELTS but take the test as soon as you can. This may buy you interview waiver...no guarantee though....

good luck in your decision.

Just an example for you, ..I am not an English speaking country, but got my BA in English Teaching Dept, got another diploma from Cambridge University and Masters from Australia, and provided all those documents, plus my transcripts.. So far they didnt ask me to sit in an IELT exam, ...Final situation : did my medicals and sent them in May 2005, and waiting...

If you have BA or Masters, or any other relavant academic diplomas or certificates from an English speaking country I do not think they will ask you to sit in an IELTS exam, but no matter how you are goot at English if you cannot provide them some academic diplomas, etc. they will surely ask you to sit in an exam... So my advice study for the exam and take it much better... Good Luck

My friend got a master degree form an English speaking country and yet CIC has asked him to write the IELTS; how about that.

If you want to guarantee your score - take the test. CIC is very clear on this subject. It is the best way to remove any doubt about your application success. Have a look at the situation facing ´alx´ in a more recent post. He is very likely going to lose his approval over IELTS.

If your skills are good - it is a major inconvenience but so is everything else about immigration. If you can afford to lose some points - it is a risk you must consider and you may elect to take your chances.
