I need to take a TEF exam and wonder if I don´t get enough points out of the test CIC might waive the 2 points that I would need. I read a post that that might be possibility, is this true? I get 0 points because of my age, leaving only a few points shy so French would be a way out.

Are you married? If so, you get extra points if your spouse is degreed.

I am, my spouse has s msster´s but I´m still shy 4 points. If I take TEF, I´d have to be at Moderate level. If I´m at basic level it´ll only give me 2 more points.

It is a $550 chance you can take. There is no way to predict how CIC will view your specific file. In all honesty, unless your skills are highly sought after in Canada, you may not have good results.

Consider the idea of a work permit. There may be some opportunities there that may provide better results for you.

Like I said, the worst that can happen is that you lose $550 and CIC says no. If you don´t try - you assume the answer is no. The only way to Yes, is to take the risk.

wannabee canadien:

I disagree with Sharon. You have this one chance to apply. If you get rejected the first time, it is highly unlikely that you are going to be selected again.

Better equip yourself with some skills to give those extra points before you apply, or at least show on your application that you are in process of and once you finish you will contribute to the canadian society.

$550 is not the big issue, never should be - final result is, so make sure you do it right. Consult an immigration lawyer, they may tell you exactly what needs to be done to get you the extra points.

Best of Luck!

Starwars, our friend can apply as many times as he wants. There is no limit or a predisposition to refusal on any subsequent application. I find no basis from the CIC website or procedural manuals to support your opinion.

Wannabee has a big challenge if he is short 4 points. no doubt about it. The TEF exam appears to be his only option so let´s hope he does well.
