Subject: Interview Experience in LA
  Hi All,
I had my interview in LA on dec 22nd. Let me give you some details so it might be helpful to others. My appt was at 930 in the morning. I was there at the consulate by 8:15AM. The counters opened at 8:30. I submitted my pp/fbi clearance/interview letter at the counter. I was the first to submit so i was called immediately at 9AM. I went in with my wife and 4 yr old kid. The officer told me that since the place was conjusted its better for my wife and kid to stay out while i am interviewed. Then she started the interview process

Officer: Hi I am Amy. I am your immigration officer for today and will be interviewing you for your canadian immigration process. Your file was transferred to LA office in Nov 2004.
Me: Hello Amy.

Officer: Can you give me your Current Employer Verification Letter/ Bank Statements/ W2/Paychecks/all I797 or H1b copies or any supporting documents
Me: I started giving the documents one by one. The most important letter that i personally feel is the Employment Verification Letter and the Bank Statement. She went through each of them very carefully.

Officer: So what do you do.
Me: I work as a Business Analyst and started telling her my day to day activities at work on a very high level.

Officer: So what kind of programming do you do.
Me: I said i used to do programming but now am into project management stuff.

Officer: So what exactly does your company do (based on the experience letter that i submitted)
Me: Its into s/w consulting and has clients allover the US and i work for their clients.

Officer: So what are your plans.
Me: i thought it was regarding Canada and i said i have already started applying for jobs in Canada and have been getting good responsed so once this process is completed i would be able to go there and work.

Officer: How good you are at english.
Me: I said i have been in the US for last 8 years and am very comfortable in English.

Officer: Based on todays discussion you need 67 points to be eligible and i am giving you 72 points. So i am still missing the medicals (its been a month since i had given medicals and they might be waiting on that) and the PCC (Police clearance from India) and the Right of Perm fee ($820 per person). Once we receive these we shall send out the PP Request for stamping.
Me: Thank you very much. have a merry christmas.

Officer: you too. so are you taking your child to Disney world. Enjoy your trip at LA.

She then handed me a booklet (Welcome to Canada). Then i left the room happy. Now i have to submit all the remaining documents to them within 90 days.
So friends to my understanding keep your cool and all the required original documents in tact. All they require is the orignal documents in place. There

is nothing to be worried. Wish you good luck. Happy new year.

My Time line is as follows

Appl Date Jan 2004
IA and interview required Sep 2004
Interview in LA dec 2005
Status - need to submit PCC, medicals and right of perm fee.

I wonder what the "Current Employer Verification Letter" is all about? Does this mean CIC wants to know if you´re currently employed and who it is? Is this something your current employer creates for you so as to take with you? (I was about to quit my job while waiting for my results and interview, but looks like this may not be a wise thing to do.)

Just to add a note. I checked the CIC website under the section "The Application Assessment Process". There, it mentions that at the interview, the CIC officer is interested in the applicant´s assessment points and sufficient funds, but no mention of "Current Employer Verification Letter".

So where is everyone getting this requirement from?

Employment Letter (in reply to: Interview Experience in LA)
Richard,
I have shared my experience only. In my case since i am working in the Software Industry the continued employment letter was important. That might NOT be the same with everyone. Thanks.

Ok, thanks Sam. A heartfelt congratulations to you. One short question - how did you know that you were to bring the Employer Verification letter? In their interview scheduling letter, did CIC ask that you bring it with you to the interview?

Letter (in reply to: Interview Experience in LA)
Richard,
Since i worked under the skilled workers category i thought it was important for me to take the letter. Thanks. I am not sure how it works for others though. Let me know if you have any more questions that i can clarify.

In Detroit, usually the interview letter from CIC comes with a list of documents that you need to submit on the day of interview. Mostly originals of what you have already submitted. The past and present employment docs are among those that you need to submit during the interview.
