Subject: Spouse sponsorship
  Hi
My wife is Canadian and she submitted my papers to sponsor ship me on Dec. 2004 and we got a letter form CIC London confirming that they started processing the application on march 2005, and on April 2005 they sent a request to pay the right of permanent residence fee (RPRF), and in may 2005 they sent me an immigrant?s summary form to be filled and that was the last thing to receive from CIC London, we sent them an e-mail before 2 months and they replied saying that the background checking is still going on, I wonder if there is any one with a similar case and if this delay is normal ?

Post your timeline there, i know at least one person is also applying through London.

Hi,

I have a similar situation . My application has been in process since May 2005 (Damascus). I contacted them 2 weeks ago and they informed us that Background check is in Progress.
Patience is a virtue. :)

All depends of the local authorities of the country or countries where you have been living in.

It might take anywhere between 4 months to 2 years.
CIC is awaiting for a police record from London or any country where you lived. (if so).

Once CIC receives your police records, the Immigration officer will finalize your application and let you know in writting abour the decision on your application.
If your spouse has been approved as your sponsor and you are a good character (no convictions)and in good health
most likely you will be approved as a Permanent resident and your Passport will be requested for visa stamping.

If you or your spouse (if is outside of Canada) have a real job offer in Canada you may send it by fax to your local visa office. It could help to speed things up.
As a word of caution, do not make anything up, CIC might investigate.
