Subject: Proof of funds...money given as gift
I was recently given some money from my parents, for helping them move and get situated into a newer home. Is a monetary gift considered okay, as opposed to CIC not wanting you to borrow money? Meaning, could they dispute this if they ask for a recent bank statement and notice the large amount, and say it was borrowed? Believe me, it was given to me, but I´m looking at all angles so I don´t have CIC thinking I´m lying to them. Thank you in advance.

Uh no...it was for doing repairs to the old house before it was sold, driving two loads of uhaul goods to storage units, 6 hours away. and when moving into the new house, unloading those two storage units. don´t assume.

Anonymous,

Part of my required funds (about 50%) was also from my relatives. When we were interviewed, we were questioned about it. We just told the officer that the money was really a donation/gift from several relatives since they know we need something to start with when we go to Canada. We just assured her that the money was in no way a loan that we need to return at a given time. We assured her that we have the full discretion on how to spend the money. At first she said she was not sure if the source was acceptable. Then later on, with God´s grace, she accepted it.

Just put the money in the bank now. You don´t need to offer explanation at this point. If the money is really yours then it will stay in your bank and that´s what the officer would want to know.

good luck

just make sure it stays in the bank for the full duration of your application.
