Subject: Get married to non Canadian citizen
I am Canadian citizen and currently working in Taiwan. I am getting married to a taiwan citizen in Canada. We haven´t planed to move back to Canada yet. In current status, can we just go to Canada and get the marriage certificate? Thanks.

depends where you are marrying. In Ontario it takes about 6months to get your marriage certificate. Good luck getting through to talk to the registrar. I´ve hear other provinces are faster.

Don´t do it in Quebec you have to have an interview before you marry; it won´t work if you are simply coming into Canada to marry then leave. After you interview your marriage must be posted publically for 20days before you can wed.

I´ve heard in BC you can get your marriage certificate in a few weeks.

Regardless, if you have ample proof that you are going to marry in Canada (wedding receipts, invitations, etc...) your soon to be spouse will be given a visitor record. If he´s from Taiwan he will probably actually require a real visa, but I could be wrong. They will make it valid for 6months-1year. Could be less though.

It is a complicated process so I highly recommend you figure it out ASAP because there is a lot of waiting and wondering! GOOD LUCK!!

Cheers
