Subject: No Jobs but British citizen still get jobs
Why is it that most of the immigrant from Asia complain that there are no jobs? I think that most of them think they can come with there univerity certificate and walk straight into the perfect job without doing some form of exams. I also think English is not there major language and they would need to improve their communication skills.

pls comment

I don´t think you can compare degrees given by american or british universities with those given by asian universities, especially in the poorest countries of Asia. I don´t think the level of education is as good as in the US or England or Australia. So maybe that´s a reason. I guess it´s a lot better for people from asia who studied in Canada, the US or England. Another thing could be the lack of experience with english and being in a english speaking environment. While people from the US, England or Australia have lived their whole life in that environment, they know the work aspects which are similar to those in Canada, the culture, habits, etc. since those are very similar countries. But actually, I´ve never heard an american or a brit complaining about getting a lousy job when they moved to Canada, but there are some people from Asia complaining about having jobs not according to what made them qualify for immigration all the time. But there are lots of people from Asia moving to Canada and doing great (most of the immigrants are from Asia), so I don´t think it is much of a big deal anyway.

from personal experience... I do not care how intelligent or educated you are, if you cannot answer the phone and someone understand you, write a letter/email or participate in a business/staff meeting you are going to not get the jobs you want.

How many times do we talk about minimum language skills when in my humble opinion it is the most critical aspect of immigration success there is.

in my humble opinion.

let´s say you are a plain paper, then you can draw the most beautiful pictures in Canada.

If you finish degree or have canadian experience, it will be pretty easy. Also depends on what kind of jobs you wanna work, there are plenty of jobs here, just depends on if you wanna work or not.

Person like me, just 20s, basically have zero achievment back in my homecountry, might find it´s way laid back to work in Canada.

Life is easy for single young person.
It´s so freedom to work in Canada, I am my own boss and I don´t wanna work in management level, so stress out and no freedom.Nobody suppose to tell me what to do in Canada!!!!

Well I totally agree with people who think that communication skills is the key to find a good job but I also feel that there has always been a silent pasive racisism in those English speaking countries. Let me give you an example from my own life. I am a Cambridge BA graduate in English Lang. Teaching, then later went to Australia to do my Masters, and completed my MA as the top student in the department... later just tried to find some jobs in Australia almost applied for 30 jobs only 4-5 employees politely answered my e mail... Later just for fun changed my name and found a fake English name, made up a fake Cv with less experience and education and applied for some ELT jobs, Surprise surprise...I was invited for an interview at 4 schools ...Well a real life experience, a real life textbook sample of how pasive discrimination works in those English speaking countries... By the way I am from Bagdat (left this country when I was 10), with an Arabic name... this explains all the misfortunes I guess... My intention to post my personal experience is not to complain about those good people in those English speaking countries, but just to share my experience and raise your awareness of how discrimination works in those countries especially if you have a dark colour and an arabic name...

Absolotely it exists in these countries. I don´t know if u guys heard about what happened in Sydne few weeks ago. 5000 young man attacked a group of about 60 persons just coz they looked Arabic and to my surprise they attacked them not coz they think they r terorrists but coz they know that those Arabs have sucessful business running in Australia in general. Also, as per the mayor of this area that most attacked people were born in Australia. I´m sure Canada is not like Australia but I´m pretty confident that White people have hidden racism that they themselves don´t feel it.

Just my opinion from diffrent experiences.

Yes Romantic as you have mentioned or wished, the people in canada are much better than those in other English speaking countries, you can see black people with white people, you can see them as married couples or bf or gf.. You can see them celebrate good days and share their bad days.. Well just a question have you ever seen an aboriginal man with a white girl in Australia ? No of course, but check those Australian magazines or tourist broshures full of aboriginals with their smiling face,. probably were paid a free Victorian Beer..therefore smiling...Well i have to say thank you all canadians and thank you for being fair, open to immigrants... Have a new year whoever you are wherever you....

Well, it would seem that what silentsun said is right. There was actually a study done in the US using the same method.

Australia will take soem time to become open. Remember thjat iot was the last bastion of "The White Man". I mean the official white Australia policy.

But I also agree with Sharon. You need communication skills to succeed in any new country.

Deny how much you want to.... racism still exists but as you mentioned its under cover. I have observed that even in people with good education, difference being... educated people know how to hide it and not show it in the open, but if you really want to see it, you should try the places where young kids in their 20´s and teens hang out like bars and downtowns on weekend nights. Its like this, when you are young, there are no inhibitions and you speak up your mind, as you grow older you learn to be politically correct.

Racism of course exists, but not such obvious, like people will confront you and tell you the get fuck out of here, or call you damn chink or japs. It will be something like group of non-white go to nightclub, bouncers will make you wait forever, let white people get in first.

Agree with Raj, when people grow older, they won´t express such obviously.

What you gonna do? Just go and work hard, make more money, let them do drugs, don´t involve. In fact, in my province, most of Asian immigrants work very hard. They usually have better financial stituation than those people only know weed and crystal meth.
You know what? A lot of white kids don´t save any penny, blow every paycheck to drink or weed.

racism occurs in every culture and colour of skin. I could ask you questions about your home county that if answered honestly would show that racism is alive and well there too.

I laugh about the name change story. Several months back I reviewed 350 resumes for an administrative position. Most names I could not pronounce and in many cases and could never have guessed what colour or nationality they were. My only clue was their education listed on the document.

In my circle of thinkers and dreamers... the racism we are seeing in our communities is imported. More often than not, the long time Canadians are tip toeing around trying to make sure they don´t offend anyone.

It is all in how you look at it.
