Subject: help on my mom's application
My mother is being sponsored by my sister in Canada. We received her application form with an office file number on it.

We are confused in filling-up some of the forms in my mom´s application. I hope that you could clarify and provide us information regarding the following:
1. For Details of Family Members, page 2 of IMM 0008 gen- are we correct in not writing anyone in the form since all her siblings are independent from her financially and all are over 22 years old? If yes, should we write in the form ?not applicable??
2. For Additional Family Information- should we write ?not applicable? in the space provided for the ?Spouse or common-law partner? since my father died more than a decade ago and mom had not any husband or common-law partner after my dad? Is my dad considered as her ?ex-spouse??
3. Do we, her siblings, need to fill the ?Background/Declaration?-Schedule 1 even if the answer in my question no.1 is yes?

It would mean a lot to us to get advice.

thank you very much.

First of all, you have some misunderstanding about the word ´siblings´. Siblings are your mother´s brothers and sisters and NOT her children. The answers to your questions are:-

1) IMM008 page 2 - if your mother has no family as defined on CIC website, she need not complete this section - quoted below your ready reference:-

Quote:
A son or daughter is dependent when the child:

is under the age of 22 and does not have a spouse or common-law partner;
is a full time student and is substantially dependent on a parent for financial support since before the age of 22, or since becoming a spouse or common-law partner (if this happened before age 22); or
is financially dependent on a parent since before the age of 22 because of a disability.
Unquote:
By reading your above message, my understanding is you are refering to your brother and sisters i.e. your mothers children and not her siblings. Accordingly your assumption is correct in mentioning N/A.

2. For Additional Family Information - please provide complete details of your father but under column ´Marital Status´, please indicate - ´Deceased´ and under Address - mention N/A. Please note that under Section C, she needs to provide the details of her siblings - brothers and sisters.

3. Schedule 1 is not applicable in her case.

Thank you very much (in reply to: help on my mom's application)
Yes, the word "siblings" was meant to be "children".

Thank you very much for your reply. This really is a great help for us. We are submitting her application today.

God Bless...

Again, thank you and best regards.
