I guess I was wrong in my earlier post - now both major parties are talking about slashing or eliminating the landing fee.

See: Harper too vows to cut landing fee (http://immigrationguides.com)

Of course if it´s a minority government, like is expected, this may still not come to pass since both parties will only deliver close to the end of their 5-year term. Minority governments have never lasted five years in Canada.

Stephen Harper courted the immigrant vote on Wednesday, promising to cut the immigration landing fee, and work to have foreign credentials recognized in Canada.

The Conservatives would cut the $975 landing fee in half immediately, and work to reduce it over time to $100, Harper said at a news conference in Mississauga, Ont.

not sure how this plays into the ´immigration tax grab´ sentiment that floats around many forums.

I am also not sure if I want this to happen...I know this is a big amount of money for each of us but collectively, as savon mentioned, this means they are giving up a huge source of income.

cic allows you to pay 975 with VISA or Mastercard, if you can´t afford right now, just put them on your credit card and pay them later or monthly.

I am not trying to discourage everybody, 975 is nothing compare with your daily living expense in Canada!

975 can´t even buy 2 share of google!!!!!!

It is all prep election CRAP! They will not do anything about it. Let us not get all excited over nothing.
I like the idea of foreign credentials being recognized but that will not happen either.
Let´s all vote GREEN PARTY...people want a change, that is a BIG change!
