Subject: Consultant in USA
  Hi,
I am an Indian Citizen currently working as a CONSULTANT in USA for the past 2 years. Due to the nature of my job, I am not sure about my stay in USA but my current contract is going to end in Dec 2004. I want to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency and had a question regarding the same. If I start my application in Bufalo, USA and then I have to shift to India, will the file be shifted from USA to India or what can happen in that situation ? Also if the file is allowed to be shifted, will the processing start again or carry on from the place where it was in USA ?
Waiting for your reply,
Eash

File transfers cause delays (in reply to: Consultant in USA)
Hi Eash.

Others have asked similar questions on this foum, concerning file transfers from one visa office to another. This does happen, especially when you move from the region for which your original visa office is responsible for (e.g. moving from USA to India).

In answer to your question, I can tell you that, without a doubt, file transfers cause delays in processing. And while it is impossible to say how much of a delay, expect nothing less than three months (but assume six, or more).

Sincerely,

Dennis Caul
