Subject: medical exam
Hi everyone! I´m new to this forum, and there is my question. I´m a PR sponsoring my husband whom I´ve been married to for five years. He had a syphilis desease about 8 years ago, which has been completely cured back then. But, as known, despite my husband´s fine condition today, VDRL test, the one that is required in the immigration medical exam, will always show positive, no matter how long ago the problem had been solved. Might this become the reson for my sponsorship being denied? Thank you all.

It need not cause a problem. Perhaps, (depending on the seriousnes of the case) additional tests will be recommended by the Visa Office (after recommendations from the CIC Medical officer). So once the additional tests do not seem that THREATENING, things will be smooth. Perhaps he will be under surveillance for a period, asking him to get examined every 2 months or so...more or lesser even. Dont´ worry.

Probably not a valid cause for inadmissibility. However further medical tests may be required in your husband´s case. Don´t worry- CIC is not so strict in the admission of spouse sponsorships since Canada strongly favors couples to get together and that´s what I like about this country.

Syphilis (in reply to: medical exam)
One of my friends had just gone for the medical in London with his family members but found out that he was Syphilis positive........his blood test revealed that. He including all the family members were normal in other tests such as HIV negative, Chest X-ray and so on- only this had made him in a difficult situation. He told me that he had once got this 12-13 years ago due to unprotected sex and was then treated. His doctor told him that it stayed on latent (dormant) stage eventhough he was treated 12-13 years ago. Then the doctor gave him 3 anti-biotic (penicillin) for 3 consecutive weeks and he wrote on the medical form that the Syphilis had been treated according to the Canadian STD Guidelines (1998) and informed him that the case would not deny him the visa. But now he is very worried, depressed and embarrassed. Can anyone tell that will this really cause the problem for Immigration visa
