Tories will change points system

Canada Immigration Forum (discussion group)

Subject: Tories will change points system
If the Tories win the election, as seems to be getting more likely by the day, this will probably impact those who have already applied as well as those who are still deciding.

Basically, those in trade professions will benefit, while others highly educated but in low-demand jobs won´t.

Also the Tories won´t increase immigration intake for now.

before everyone freaks out... my guess is that if typo is correct, it will not be the first piece of legislation on the table and it will require discussion and cooperation from the NDP to get it passed.

what I forsee happening is an increase in work permits first- hence the hold on intake numbers. Canada does not have time to wait 2-3 years for specific skills we desperately need - so I think they will take that route initially.

believe it or not... this is likely good news for everyone. bottom line is people want to be successful in Canada. they want to work, earn a good living etc. Canada needs to make sure that is possible for people.

I figure by the time the legislation works its way through the system... most of this forum will be landed and working in their new country.

THANK YOU CANADA. I DON'T WANT TO GO (in reply to: Tories will change points system)
I´m really starting to think to send CIC a letter that I don´t want to go and I need my file and I need my money since they sent me a letter more than 5 months ago that they will be will be able to process my file in Sept 2006.

At this time it will be 2 years and 8 months since I submitted my application. And they themselves who sent a letter saying they will be able to process, which means, they didn´t start it yet after 2 years and 7 months!!!!.

Am I right to ask for my money and my time and the opportunities I lost for a sake of country that is being ruled by people who will change every thing with a slash of pen in a second. Years of waiting are being destroyed by seconds!!!
.
I really don´t want it and I read that other countries are treating applicants more humanitarian than this country that treat us like animals. Some people think its the best country on earth. I don´t know who is that stupid who said that. He must be a dump even if the United Nations itself ranked Canada as a best country to live in.

Canada, GOOD BYE and have black day

RW, what sort of processing time did you anticipate when you filed? are you within those times?

Nobody is changing any rules that govern your application. No pens are out, nobody is burning current CIC applications. You are not an animal and we do not think of you as one.

CIC always says - do not sell your house and pack until you get your PR approval. If you have frozen your life in anticipation of Canadian PR - that has been your choice.

Do you want a good job when you come to Canada? Then let us do our job as Canadians to make sure it happens for you. Do you want Canada to be the best country to live in for YOU? then let us do what is needed to make it that way instead of throwing rocks at us and cursing the day you ever filled in an immigration application.

We are in the middle of an election. I understand in your country that your president has been king forever and the idea of shifting policy is unsettling - but you are watching a true democracy at work. Promises and ideas are proposed. People will vote. Some ideas will happen short term, some will take longer... some will be totally and conveniently forgotten.

Until the legislation is tabled and passed or the policy is announced by a sitting government - it is all noise.

If you want to abandon your plans because of noise - that is your choice.

One thing that needs to be stressed is that even if ALL the proposals that are being talked about are passed, it needn´t change anything for those whose applications are already in the pipeline.

In the past, whenever there has been a change that could negatively affect applicants, they had the choice of opting for whichever rule suited them better.

If anything, these proposals are positive, not negative. No one is talking of reducing immigration numbers. It will either be status quo (Tories) or increased (supposedly) if the Liberals return.

The people it may negatively affect are those who have not yet applied when new rules, if any, come into effect.

I see immigration becoming easier and more expansive (more people qualify) under many of the policies put forward by the various parties.

This could be positive news for a lot of folks. Some of it is long overdue. Too bad we need an election to make it happen.

I´m sorry, nobody human being on earth would be convinced that, when u apply there were conditions and when a new government comes, there r new rules even if the old government comes they should not change the rules for those who already applied.

Sharon, Let us supposed u need a visa to be in my country and u filled your application for your visa and you paid 1500$ for your visa processing " WHICH IS NONE REFUNDABLE" they said it will take them 18 months to tell u yes or no to your visit. After 2 years THEY SAID WE R SORRY OUR CRITERIA HAVE CHANGED and u are not eligible for the visa and forget your money and waiting time.

They broke every thing from the beginning weather time that they should be committed to "18 months" as per their letter what ever circumstances around them. I don´t know if u r convinced or not. I need your answer in this matter plz coz u always keep defending them blindly.

Yes we are leaving our countries for a better countries who will respect others but they fact that they r not respecting even their citizens. I can´t understand when I get Canadian nationality I can´t get my parents there!!! So many things are contradicting each other in their policy.

Typo,
what u r talking about, is considered a favor from CIC and they many not do it. They r not committed to it, they simply can apply the new rules retroactively as per stated in CIC web site. U can´t guarantee they will do what u think at all.
Correct me if I´m wrong and I humbly stand for correction and will to acknowledge view that may be totally different of that mine.

You are supposed to spend your normal day productively rather than waiting in anticipation of PR.These things happen and its better to take it in your stride rather than getting frustrated.Move on man.Dont try to frustrate CIC, it will frustrate you more and make life miserable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RW... slow down. you are jumping to conclusions again and getting yourself upset over absolutely nothing. Take a deep breath.

CIC cannot guarantee your application time because they cannot control your prompt replies, the completeness of your application nor the cooperation of your home country´s educational institutions, employers or police. Nobody can make guarantees when over 50% of the process is outside their control. Your letter gave you an outline of process and approximate time - nothing more.

As to broken promises, respect, parents, contradictions etc. You have made a REQUEST for Canada to accept you as a resident and potential citizen. Canada has every right to say yes or no as they see fit. You paid your fees for someone to decide if it is reasonable for you to come. They have every right to change the future rules for residency as they see fit. Many of the most highly desireable destination countries do not allow family (chain) immigration at all. Canada still says yes - not as many as everyone wants but I there are lots of things in this country I think I want and deserve and the answer is no.

The Canadian government´s first obligation is to their citizens. They also are obligated to obey the laws of the country. So that is your protection. The 2000 and 2001 applicants got covered under both sets of rules the last time things changed so there is no reason to suspect differently in any future changes.

The fact that Canada government can change point system at any given time during our processing is really not a good idea, to me it is like some kind of discrimnation. You begin a game, set your role, you should not change in the middle. another idea is they need provide fully refund for those who qulified old point system but not new one.
