| Subject: complicated residency question |

My Canadian boyfriend and I (American) want to apply for my permanent residence through common law. We both live and work in Taiwan. Our residency here expires July of this year. We want to start the application process now through the Taiwan office which i believe is okay as long as we are legal residents of Taiwan. However, in July we will both leave and lose our residency status . Will they continue to process the application through the Taiwan office? If so, while we are waiting for the results, can I go to Canada with my boyfriend until approved or called for an interview?

You can not do it through Taiwan. He has to be first approved as a sponsor through Mississauga and then your application will be sent to an American office. It will take some time so start getting all documents together now. You can apply as In Canada or Outside Canada.....go to the CIC website to see all the details.

The address that you will be list down is Taiwan .... if they correspond through you how will you get it .. if you leave Taiwan??? Are you going to retain the address??

you have to apply either where you are a citizen or permanent resident, or have a valid visa stay for a year or more. You will need to apply through Miss, Ontario/Buffalo, NY if you wish to be in the states, or if you want to apply inland, (to stay with him through the process, tho you can´t work or study until AIP) you would apply through Vegreville, AB
www.cic.gc.ca is the best place to go then you can look at the guides for inland applications, or outside applications.
