Subject: Advice Please
I am a Canadian citizen by birth and have lived there basically my whole life (save for the last 3 years - during which time I was a factual resident). Recently I married a Ugandan citizen and she has applied for a Permanent Residence permit. While we were waiting for the permit, I stayed with her in Uganda (I´m still a Canadian resident, just visiting Uganda). While I was in Uganda, I got a very good job offer (the job is in Uganda) which I am considering taking up. The job will probably last 2-3 years - minimum, during which time we will not be able to settle in Canada, but wish to do so afterwards. So basically my question is, what options do I have?
(a) Do we ignore the current PR permit and re-apply after 2-3 years? (wasting all that money)
(b) Do we go to Canada for a few weeks and she gets her PR card and then we go back to Uganda? If so, what are the stipulations with this since I won´t be settled in Canada at that time. Will she be allowed to enter if we have intentions of leaving in 3 or 4 weeks? I won´t have a residence there (other than family members) - I haven´t lived there in about 3 years, so will it be a problem entering Canada if we both arrive from Uganda at the same time with no real address to call home?
(c) any other alternatives?

Since I am a Canadian national, I am not vey conversant with the Immigration rules. Your advice is welcomed and appreciated.

Thank You

HI GDKL:
If you guys have already applied for your spouses PR, after it has been approved, you will still have some time before your spouse actually has to land in Canada, and that time typically is about 1 yr. from the day your spouse has gotten her medicals done (medicals expiry date). Just before her medicals expiry, she has to land in Canada and get her PR card. After she gets her PR card, you can leave Canada and live out of Canada for a max. of 3 years, and then she has to come back to Canada and live the next 2 years in Canada in order for her to maintain her residency (2 out of 5 years she has to live in Canada to maintain residency.

Hope this is clear.

Also, if you already applied, did you specify that you were out of canada? did you list a canadian residence/address for them? I think you have to have a "home" in canada, even if it´s your parents/etc...

She´ll have to land to get her PR card... then you could go back, just watch that she is in canada for 2/3 years (730 days) otherwise she´ll lose her PR.
