Waiting Game ... let me tell you about our life... we are in the U.S. on a Working VISA for my wife and Dependent VISA for me... i had a working VISA before but was being reassigned to another country by my company ... so i was forced to change to dependent VISA ... can´t work till i get a sponsor .. kinda hard .. for IT people ..especially here in Texas what with the Enron going down .... lots of people still looking for work ... Both Citizens and Greencard holders ... ergo harder for me ... oh did I mention we have a 2 yr old who stays with me at home ... so it´s kinda hard to bring him along for the interviews ...

And so Canada is our next option ... coz the backlog in the U.S. for the Greencard application of a skilled worker .. is longer than any wait you could ever imagine .. if the 2004 applicants here are pissed .... imagine ... here .. there are 2000 applicants still waiting ... FOR THE FIRST STAGE .. not even the final stage ... sucks!

Oh eniwei ... patriots lost ... COLTS WILL WIN in the SUPERBOWL ...fearless prediction hehe ...

Jowsie,
I know how you feel. H-1b and GC backlog are the reasons I want to move to Canada. Canada might have less opportunites but I won´t have to go to every interview and ask them if they sponsor.

The backlog in GC is partly due to the manesty in 2000 where they gave all the illegals GC´s. Don´t you love it. All the illegeals have GC´s and you don´t

I agree (in reply to: Life ... is the wait worth it..)
Anonymous ...

What a law they have here .... Amnesty for illegals and waiting for the legals ... so STOOOPID ... i also here the after 9/11 everything has changed ... sick and tired of it ...

We calculated the time left for our greencard ... the priority date right now for the change from H1B to GC .. is APRIL 2001 (it varies i think per country for this part) ... ours is SEP 2003 .. so that´s ... 30 months ... x2 coz the priority date moves a month .... per 2 months ... so all in all 60 months. FIVE YEARS ...... what the hell my son would be almost in High school by then ...

And get this ... the PERM .. the new process is really a bummer too .. a friend of our in NY ... applied through that coz all new applicants have to now ... they got there labor certification (1st stage) .. while we are still waiting ..... imagine that .. nice process they have here ... the backlogged ones get labor after the new ones ...

Only a change in the law .. or a new personnel in the white house .... we´ll speed it up .. according to the grapevine ..

BOO HOO! .... at least i´m at MARCH 2005 .. hopefully this year we get into to Canada .... YES!!!

If your wife can tansfer with the same country to Canada, you can keep your GC application going.

I can fully understand your situation and sympathize with you. Probably Canada is easier solution for you. However, the Canadian Immigration system is also a joke. Canada intake 250,000 immigrants every year. 55% of these are Economy Class (Skilled Workers, Provincial Nominees, and Entrepreneurs etc.) and 45% Family Class. This is a $1billion industry. While Canadian govt. gets approx. $400 million by way application processing fees and landing fees, the balance $600 million goes to thousands of Immigration Consultants. For the SW category, you need to have good education, experience etc. and you wait for years (approx. 2 years if you are in USA), the family class immigration is much quicker and you do not need any experience or education. These people land here and go on social insurance at the cost of tax payer money. Govt. spends money on them to teach them English and integrate with society. On the other hand educated and qualified persons like you, have to proof their English ability by appearing in IELTS and once they arrive, their education is not recognized by the industry. So they end up doing jobs much below their capability and caliber.

As per one estimate Canada has more than 500,000 illegal immigrants and Canadian Govt is also thinking of legalizing these immigrants so that they can earn the taxes. This was a major issue in debate few months back but due to the minority Govt., this issue was not taken up strongly.

You can get all these details on CIC web site. Please look at ?Media Room? under different News Articles and Media Advisories and Speeches.

I am not saying do not come to Canada. I just want to make sure that you are aware about the facts and realities and not be under illusion. Please do not think that Canada is the best place on this earth but surely it is one of the nice places to live.

Guys, I find this posting on another forum, very well summarised by the author:-

Quote:
hi

i too got panic after searching through the website.

but after some reserch i reached the following conclusions. please correct if i am wrong.

1.we do have good qualification and experience and expertise in our choosen field of study.

2.we should acquire additional qualification and canadian experience to be in a suitable position.

3. whereever u are along with qualification u need some good luck and god´s grace to achieve our dreams. for eg..in gulf we know many person who are very rich and doing good business without knowing ABCD. its....luck only. but we have seen many guys...educated well but unable to compete or cope up and leave gulf with shattered dreams. it´s....bad luck only.

4. we are moving to a new country. we should not expect a bed of roses initially...to avoid disappointment.

5. mere qualification and experience dosen´t make a guy successful. he should be smart enough to sell himself in the job market.

6. i do have friends there in canada but they never expressed an opinion like this site. they says canadians are friendly...climate and taxes are little tough for us initially.

7. anyway thousands are migrating every day. few are of these types of opinion....so don´t be discouraged. be cool and cheer up to face life as it comes as we cannot plan everything in advance.

8. ofcourse those who are landing with children and all should some extra care to bring in more money to support the family till u get a job.

9. we are not going to a familier place or with an arranged job. so we have to be careful and prepared.
10. be happy...leave the rest to god...if u believe.

cheers
