Subject: Changing immigration application
I have an application in London as a skilled worker. I received my file number in July of this year. I hear it takes longer to apply as a skilled worker than a sponsorship.

I have now been living with my Canadian fiance for over a year, so I qualify for the sponsorship application.

Do you think I would save much time by reapplying under the sponsorship application or is there any way of contacting CHC London and explaining the circumstances?

Help!

You are right spouse sponsorship is indeed faster than skilled worker category. But I suggest you visit the CIC website and look for approx. timelines of people filing application under the spouse sponsorship category.

If you want to go ahead and file under the spouse category you will have to withdraw your skilled worker application. Also you have to provide proof of relationship with your fiance. Ask yourself - Can I provide conclusive proof that I have had a relationship with my fiance for over a year? Because if the proof is not strong then you may be called for an interview so that will delay the process. But even with an interview the case should go through earlier than a skilled worker category.

Thanks (in reply to: Changing immigration application)
Thank you for your reply.

I have enough ´proof´ that we have been living together for over a year so that wont be a rpoblem. However, I dont want to withdraw my skilled worker application and reapply as a sponsorship, only to find my first application only had a few months to go.

Dont suppose you know of any way of finding out which stage you are at? I´ve looked up the CIC progress page, and it just says ´in progress´.

Thanks again!

Do the math.

Reapplying for residency in Canada (in reply to: Changing immigration application)
Hi There

I became a landed immigrant in Canada in 1996 however I was unable to maintain the status as my job required me to be in UK alot more. Hence the status expired. My situation has now changed and I wish to immigrate to Canada. Do I need to reapply or can I ask for a refresh on the original visa?

Many Thanks
