Subject: Urgent PR Card Problem and Travel by Car |

Dear All,
I was just informed that the photos I submitted for the PR card had some problems, therefore, I need to appear at the Hamilton, ON local office to have my photos retaken. Here?s my brief situation and I need your help on several questions. Thanks in advance!
I landed mid December last year at Niagara Falls and stayed with my friends for a few days and had to come back to the US for school. My PR card application was transferred to the Hamilton local office, because I left my friend?s address is in Hamilton at the time of landing.
I was told by the immigration officer at the time of landing that I could not travel commercially without a PR card, but could travel by land in a personal vehicle. My question is whether anyone has done so by using your confirmation of landing and old immigration visa to travel from the US to Canada via land. I tried repeatedly to contact the Canadian Consulate in Los Angeles regarding travel documents, but couldn?t get through. So do I really need to apply for a travel document if I plan to travel back to Canada by land?
My second question is that if the above mentioned option is doable, can I drive a rental car into Canada instead of driving my own? I currently live in LA and don?t want to drive my own car all the way to Buffalo, so I am thinking about renting a car at the Buffalo airport.
Your advice is greatly needed. Thanks a lot!

(in reply to: Urgent PR Card Problem and Travel by Car) 17. Do I require a PR card if I?m returning to Canada by car?
The PR card is required to re-enter Canada by commercial carrier (airplane, boat, train or bus) only. This requirement does not apply if you are travelling by private vehicle.

So you can enter Canada by a private vehicle using your COPR. But I am not sure if a rental car will be considered as a private vehicle.

(in reply to: Urgent PR Card Problem and Travel by Car) Rar,
No specific info on what went wrong with the photo. I suspect it was some glare on my glasses.

(in reply to: Urgent PR Card Problem and Travel by Car) You should take rental car if you take your own car you might have to pay custom if you´d not declared it at the time of landing. You do not need Travel Document.
