Subject: background check
  Hello,

please, explain me what does it mean background checks in Immigration process? My husband resides in Canada and we are trying to unite as a family (I live in the other country). The process takes for a while and after request to the Embassy they replied that background checkes are not completed yet.

I have submitted all documents one can imagine(they know everything about me). What does it mean background checks for immigration? Is it very complex procedure?

Thank you.

A background check means that you need every country in which you have lived after you turned 18 to send the details of your criminal activities (if any, of course) so that the Embassy can decided whether or not they like to admit you in Canada. Check

for more details.

its a multi-setp process involving checks done by security and other agancies they check your personal and security/criminality iformation, it may take long time in some cases (over 15 months) though most cases 1-8 months
good luck
