Subject: Part time work experience - does it count ?
  Hi Guys,

I applied for Immigration and got AOR in Nov 2005. I know it´s still a long way for me even for IA but I had a question.

I was an undergraduate student in Canada and I have relevant part time experience of about 8 months ( converted to full time - 40hrs/week). When I finished school in Aug 2005, I got hired by a Fortune 500 company and I have been working with them since 6 months now (on a 2 year work permit).

At the time of filing I had 8 mths in school (work ex on campus in Canada) and 4 months of work experience working on a work permit. My company also wrote a letter of arranged employement (although no hrdc approval for me - did not try to get it).

Now after reading a few recent posts about people whose part time experience was rejected (when they were called for interview) after getting AOR initially is freaking me out. All of my work experience is in the NOC

Is there anyway I can find out if the same situation is slated for me. I did not take IELETS. I have ordered CAIPS notes and haven´t got them yet.

Prior knowledge would at least me get an internal transfer out of Canada in due time so I don´t end up unemployed in 2 years!

Thanks for your suggestions!

Sid

one year minimum experience is required to qualify for application for immigration.....now you may count your experience if you qualify or not....good luck

Hi Sid,
I graduated from the U of Guelph in Dec 2004 and got a 2 year post graduate work permit. I applied as soon as I graduated, and have gained an additional year of work experience in my field. I´m in a similar situation as you since I had part-time work experience from my student job while I was doing my undergraduate. I´ve heard that as long as the part-time work experience falls into the proper NOC code, you should be fine.

I think all the people who´ve been failing their interviews are people that had jobs that didn´t fit into the proper NOC codes. CIC also has to count all experience that you gain from the time of application to your initial assessment(see manual guide for Federal Skilled Workers on CIC website). They are also more lenient towards people with post-graudate work permits, because that is the purpose of this visa; to keep foreign students with Canadian work experience and education in the country. This is actually shown in an article for the pilot project for the work permit CIC initially had at another province. So, as soon as you have gained 1 year of work experience at your current job, get a letter from their HR dept. stating just so and send it to the CIC office. In addition, I would suggest that you write your IELTS test and send those results off as well. CIC has become more stringent on getting your IELTS results. Hope this helps.

Oh ya, 1 more thing, don´t order your CAIPS notes before you get your initial assessment, because it will be blank. It will only contain the bring forward date (BFD) which isn´t really useful.

Hi Joy,

Thanks for your help. I graduated from UoG too but in 2005. Are you from Bio-Sciences?
