| Subject: Temp visa while waiting for permanent |

Hi folks, my family and I want to live in Calgery while waiting for our permanent visa to be completed. Also, I´d like to work there in the meantime. Can anyone tell me for how long the temporary visa is good for? Will this be difficult to do? Any information will be helpful. I live in the U.S. Thanks!

How can you work and live in Canada with a temproray visa ? Not an expert but my little brain says why dont you continue your work and life in USA and wait for your PR visa ... Anyway better jusy ignore what I say and read some other experts´ ideas... Good luck

Canadian Immigration calls Visit Visa as Temporary Visit Visa.
It only allows you to visit Canada for short period - max 6 months at a time.
It does not allow you to engage in work.
If you want to get visit visa and simply stay as a tourist while you wait on PR, you can; but you cannot engage in work that will earn you money - it is illegal! and may jepordize your PR process itself.

Temporary Visit Visa should acutally read as Temporary Residence Visa.

Temporary Resident Visa is valid for 6 mo. You can apply for 6 mo. extension before the 1st expires. You can re-apply several times. If you want to work, you have to have a work permit, which varies as to how long it is valid according to the job. Go to CIC website and click on ´Visit´ information.

I think you can apply for temp. residence permit (along with work permit) to start your work in canada while your application for PR is under processing. I checked with CIC and CC in LA.

Ash, your statement "It does not allow you to engage in work" is not true. Where did you get that information? I´d like to see that in writing.
