Subject: Financial Resources |
When applying for Permanent Residence, we need to show financial resources with a bank statement, etc.
Question: sufficient funds in an IRA account with Merril Lynch, does that work?

finances (in reply to: Financial Resources) can you access the money? The funds must be liquid and accessible. You will be required to come into Canada with enough liquid cash (draft, travellers cheques, cash) to support yourself based on CIC tables. I do not think locked in investments will qualify. I stand to be corrected.

liquifying (in reply to: Financial Resources) I could sell, put the money in a savings account, get a bank statement of that account for the application, then put the money back into stocks. But, a lot of hassle. I was under the impression that proof of sufficient funds was needed at the time of application, not necessarily on-hand when "landing." Am I wrong?

financial resources (in reply to: Financial Resources) I have been told (because my fiance and I are in a similar situation) that we will need to show funds at point of entry and CIC can ask for verification of funds at any point in the application process. We have already been asked for proof of funds prior to the waiver of an interview. I think you might need to cash your IRA and leave it out until your application is complete. Not good news... I know.
