It depends on your what class you´re applying under.

I called the information line for the Buffalo RPC, and it said that they are currently experiencing up to a year backlog of immigration application. I think this applies to people applying under the skilled workers and business class.

Spouse/Common-law/conjugal partener applications have priority status and are pushed through as quickly as possible.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/menu-perm.html

If you look on that link you should be able to find the processing times for the past year for the class your applying under. The times are from the time the RPC recieves your application to the time it is finalized.

Buffalo Processing Time (in reply to: Buffalo Immigration status)
Hi,

My application begun processing on January 31, 2004, received my AOR on Feb 12,2004, sent my IELTS results in May 2004 but i have not received a response yet. As indicated by my consultants, the next step in the procedure is waiting for the medical papers to be sent. I am living in the US. How long does it take to get a response after submitting IELTS as well as receiving the AOR.

Also, is it possible to do the police/fbi clearance. If so, what is the format letter for sending the letter to the fbi requesting them to send a fingerprint card.

Hi,

I just checked out this web site with the processing times, and I was surprised to see that it takes less time for the Buffalo Office to process common-law/conjugal partners applications than it does to process spouse applications. Also, my husband is not an american citizen, but he is currently living in the States and since I am sponsoring him to come to Canada, we thought that it´s better for his application to be procesed in Buffalo rather than in Vienna (where it would be processed normally if he was to return home). Is this true?

Hi Worried,

Average time to process Family Class: Spouses immigration between July 2003 to June 2004:

Processing Times at Individual Visa Offices in Vienna

30% of cases finalized in: 3 months
50% of cases finalized in: 5 months
70% of cases finalized in: 7 months
80% of cases finalized in: 8 months

Processing Times at Individual Visa Offices in Buffalo

30% of cases finalized in: 8 months
50% of cases finalized in: 11 months
70% of cases finalized in: 15 months
80% of cases finalized in: 19 months

Above information taken from http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/2003-Q3/05-fc-spouses.html

As you can see your husband´s immigration will be quicker from Vienna. To apply from Vienna your husband does not have to go back there. When they request for his passport he will have to send it to Vienna. If it is possible he can mail it to them and get it back in US. But if he is called for an interview he will have to fly to Vienna.

I submitted my Med Exam Result in February 2004 and have not heard anything since then.

Is my waiting time still within the normal range?

Also, I faxed to request the status of application two weeks ago and no response.

What should/can I do?
