  Hello Guys,

I have been asked to write the IELTS exam, but for some reason i am scared of the exam. Its funny though cos i am third year university student in a Canadian university. Is there really anything to be scared of? Those who have written the exam, please could you share your experince with me..

Thanks a lot...

hi abi,

There is absolutely nothing to be scared of....,the only vital part is If u need 16 points in the proficiency for your fulfilment of 67 then it takes a lot of preparation.

To get 16 pts U must get a band of 7 in EACH of the 4 facets of english not overall 7.I can make out that your english is good and my advice for U is work more on the reading part and the writing part than listening and speaking, coz thats where we tend to neglect and lose points.

Once again:
get as much material as possible and work on the reading and the writing part.

Make sure you do some trial runs (in reply to: IELTS)
IELTS administrators publishes materials for you to do trial runs. Once you have done it, is a piece of cake to take the real test, like they are help you to cheat, just make sure you watch the time given for each sections, very easy to run out of time.

I wrote the exam in Sep 2005 and I thought it was quite easy. I had some problems with the listening section because I was at the far end of the room and the CD palyer was not a very good one (they charge $245 for appearing test but they can´t buy a good CD palyer!!). The practice tests of the Cambridge IELTS books were really helpfull for preparing for the test

I don´t know why do they ask people who are studying in Canadian or US universities to take the IELTS test. These people have aleady proven their proficiency in English!! I think this is just a way of helping the test centres to make money.

If you made it to your 3rd year of university, you don´t need to get any studying materials. All you need to do is go over sample tests that can be easily found online adn practice those. It is extremely easy. If you have been speaking English for more than 5 or 6 years, you will easily get above 7 in all 4 sections. By looking at your posting I can tell that you already have decent grammar, which will be more than sufficient for the exam.
