Subject: Private Hospital
Hi Everyone. I just got my permanent residence visa and would be moving to Canada for good in December. However,I am pregnant and wish to have my baby in BC. I understand that i do not qualify for medicals until after three months of residence. I just want to know if anyone is aware of private hospitals in BC where the child can be born and i can pay for the delivery privately.
Thanks
Olu

Hello Olu,

My spouse and I our in a similar situation in Alberta. There are no private hospitals or clinics in Canada (it is currently against the Health Care Act). However, every single hospital, clinic, and lab take CASH!

Although, because you are moving to BC from outside Canada you should qualify for health care immed. upon setting foot in BC. I believe the 3 month situation applies only to people moving from another Canadian province (and hence covered under the former provincial health plan).

Regards, Jisei

Hi,

How about for people moving from USA? My husband is on H1B and we are covered by United Health care Insurance.

If I move to Canada with pregnancy, will the kid be covered with medical insurance?

thank you
