Subject: Immigration from Pakistan
  Hello,
I am looking for information on behalf of a friend of mine. She came here from Pakistan, sponsored by her husband, about 4 years ago. She is living in an abusive relationship and her husband tells her that if she leaves, he will have her sent back to Pakistan. I have heard that during the sponsorship he can do that. What I´m wondering is: can she apply for citizenship to avoid being sent back? She has recently given birth here in Canada, so the baby is a Canadian citizen I believe, does that make any difference in the ability for her to become a citizen as well? How long does a sponsorship last that will keep her a prisoner here in CANADA??

ANY help on this topic would be GREATLY appreciated!

I assume she came as a Permanant resident not as a visitor and voilated her legal stay....if she came as a PR then her husband is no one to send her back even if she is not yet a citizen...rather she can take him to court for abusive behavior and send him back if he is not yet a citizen....provided there is solid proof for his abusive behaviour....secondly she is eligible to apply for citizenship now......i wonder why she did not apply.....tell your friend , she is not in Pakistan where her husband has a upper hand because of old traditions and culture; in Canada, she can put him in trouble if he does not treat her properly....I know she can even put him in even bigger trouble in Pakistan but people usually dont like to go to Police because they want to solve their family issues within the family not in courts.....and its a big shame for families in Pakistan if they go to police for their personal family problems.....Ami right?...tell your friend not to worry and contact me at malkaan@hotmail.com and i will give her a solution which i cant explain on this forum.....good luck

your friend has nothing to worry as I understand she is a PR in Canada since she was sponsored by her spouse 4 years ago. She is eligiable to apply for citizenship if she has completed 1095 days in Canada under PR. She shoul apply for her citizenship rather then wait any longer. Tell your friend she is in Canada and not in Pakistan. She can go to the authorities for her husbands abusive behaviour.

[**.246.93.242] You are a big piece of Junk, why would we ask money and why would somebody pay for such issues, we are neither consultants nor lawyers, i gave my e-mail because because i know the lady was not telling every thing in detail on this forum. People from Pakistan, India & close by are very sensitive about their personal issues. Thats why i thought of providing my e-mail so that she could explain all the details if she wish to.....and thats it........Dont think every body is like you......We were helped in so many ways by some nice people on this forum and we want pay back by helping others in trouble.....I am sorry to say YOU ARE SICK MOTHER FUCKER and you dont have to be on this forum........Good Luck to You......

Wow, I didn´t know this would be such a hot topic LOL
Thanks, I just needed to know if she would be eligible to apply. It sounds like she will be. How long does it take between applying and taking the test? Is there a certain amount of time for that? Her english is better than 4 years ago, but sill not quite good enough for that yet. And I have no idea if she can read english well enough. What percentage is required to pass the test?
