Subject: Work visa extension
We have been living in Canada since April 03 on work permit status. We are Indian citizens. My work permit is valid till March 30th 2006. We have applied for residency last June and our application is pending at the Buffalo office. Apparently they wil not even begin processing my file till July 2006 due to backlogs. With my work permit expiring in March 2006, and my employer not willing to extend my assignment any further, is there any way we can stay on in Canada and not have to leave?
Would appreciate any help, since leaving would mean having to sell our house, car etc and start all over again.

Hey dmancan,

If you take admission to any college, you will get study permit (student visa). Longer the course, longer the student visa. If you are married, you wife can apply for open permit and work. Or Vice-versa situation also applies (ur wife studies and you work). I am sure other ppl in thi s forum will also suggest some +ve options!

In Australia before we were able to change our VISA from Working VISA to Tourist VISA ... we were given 3 month tourist VISA ..... and then could be extended upto a year ... we used that till we got another job ... and then change back to working VISA ..

that is if you don´t have money to enroll .. but doing the student option is a common practice ... get those Continuing Education Courses ..
