Subject: question regarding type of IELTS
  Hi All,
Recently, I took the self assessment test at www.cic.gc.ca and noticed that I could apply as a skilled worker in Canada. One thing I am confused about is that the type of IELTS test required is General Training. But I took the academic test. Will it be an obstacle for me to apply for the immigration?
Please help me out.
Regards
Sam

If you wana apply for canadian immigiration skill worker category you should have to take general training exam .
Acadamic is only if you wana go for study

Question is how much did you score in each section of the Academic version of IELTS. If you scored more than 7 in each section then you are Ok.

The Academic version is harder than the general one so if you can score 7 in Academic then you can obviously score at least 7 in general.

If you did not score at least 7 in EACH section give IELTS again and this time give the General section.

Hi,

"Question is how much did you score in each section of the Academic version of IELTS. If you scored more than 7 in each section then you are Ok."

My overall score is 7. Here is the break-down
Listening = 7
Reading = 7.5
Writing = 7
Speaking = 7

"The Academic version is harder than the general one so if you can score 7 in Academic then you can obviously score at least 7 in general."

Yeah I agree but you see to sit for the general test I have to wait for 3 more motnhs. This is an absurd policy by the IELTS test organizers. Dont you think so?

"If you did not score at least 7 in EACH section give IELTS again and this time give the General section."

Please advise me whether I can get away with the academic IETLS.

Regards
Sam

Sam,

Try to ask the institution where you took the exam if you can convert your academic score to general. When I took the exam, I remember our facilitator telling us that Academic scores can be converted to General but not vise versa.

Sam,

Refer this link:

Further, read point 10.6.

I read 10.6 differently (in reply to: question regarding type of IELTS)
I read 10.6 to say that the IELTS general test is all that CIC requires NOT the only test it will accept. If the IELTS academic exam is more difficult and the score is good - then I see no need to be concerned.

Sharon,

If you have to take IELTS, it MUST be General. Technically, anything else would be considered as an optional language proficiency proof. It depends upon officer´s judgement for the language points.

But, if you take IELTS General, then you can be sure of the language points.

can I submit the application first then send IELTS score to immigration office later? (in reply to: question regarding type of IELTS)
I took IELTS Academic too, and got 6 in listening, 8.5 in reading, 6 in writing and 7 in speaking. If I have to take IELTS General if must be thre months later. Can I submit my application to immigration office first, and send IELTS General score later?
