Mailed them and got this reply:

Dear Sir/Madam,

The timeframe for requesting a copy of your Criminal Identification Record is 10 weeks from the date of receipt. You will need to contact the Canadian government officials because it is very unlikely that you will be receiving your request by your Feb. deadline. Judging from the timeframe you have quoted as to the delivered date at our office, I would anticipate you receiving this document at the beginning of April. Contact the Canadian officials to verify whether or not they can grant you an extension in your submission of this document.

Thank you.

So now what shall I do?

Hi Sharma:

When did you send the letter? Back in middle 2005, they can expedite processing and give you results in 2 weeks. Did you put deadline date on your request letter to them and on the envelope?

Anyway, seems like you have no choice but to ask for an extension. CIC is always lenient in giving extensions to required additional documents as long as you inform them ahead of time. Email communication will do.

good luck

when asking an extension, do send them the letter from FBI as a proof that delay is out of your control.......its gonna work

Thanks Joe05, Steve & Brain for replying. God bless u all.

I posted the letter on 18th Jan, 2006. The letter was received at FBI on 24th Jan, 2006.
I mentioned the dealine (and reason) on the envelope as well as on the covering letter.

Yesterday, I applied for extension of two months to be on the safe side (sent them the copy of speed post receipt, printout of delievery report & mail from FBI)

Shall I sent a request to FBI also for getting it done as soon as they can?
