Subject: Please Help!
  Hi All,

Apparently my lawyer followed up with CIC-M and she has told me that the file has been transferred to some ´Special Unit´..

Can someone tell me if that indeed exists and what for??

According to her, it is because there was not much time in between my divorce and re-marriage (approx 2 / 3 months in between however in Canada, you have to be seperated from your spouse for one year before you are granted a divorce so that would essentially mean over 1 year)

She said she will send them a fax stating that we can send in additional info and to advise what info to send in such as honeymoon pics etc. Should we wait to hear from CIC or should I send in additional proof..what else should I send in ?

I hope this doesn´t mean they will automatically reject our file!!??

Any comments would be appreciated.

Please give your timeline and where you are applying from. If you are in doubt and do not trust your lawyer, send a mail to CIC clarifying your question. If your lawyer is dependable, then follow what she is doing.

No, this does not mean they will automatically reject your file. It appears you are not from Canada. If that is the case, the immigration folks do understand that different countries have very different laws on divorce and re-marriage. If you have been re-married to a canadian citizen, all they are trying to do is to validate if,

1. the marriage is real and not a false pretext for Canadian immigration

Stay calm and remain proactive in providing all necessary information CIC needs from you to understand the situation. If they send you a letter that they need more evidence about your marriage, ensure that you provide all necessary (and more) evidence to assure them that the case is genuine.

Hi PPRwait,

I am a canadian citizen and my husband is in India

Lawyer sent all the paperwork to CIC-M and they received it early early Dec and started processing on Jan 6

This week lawyer called CIC-M to find out why we have not received the sponsor approval letter and she was told that the file has been pulled out of the regular stream and sent to "Special Unit" for further investigation..

Lawyer told me this is because the marriage took place so soon after my divorce and they will probably go over the file very thoroughly at this time (exactly what you said). I will also be sending in more evidence however lawyer has asked to wait a week or two as she has sent a fax to CIC-M Special Unit to confirm where the additional info should be sent (Miss or Delhi) however if the file is in Miss, doesn´t it only make sense to send it there?? I have been holding onto my honeymoon photos for a month or so now because she said we would send it to the Delhi office however now I´m thinking why would she suggest that if she knows the decision is made by CIC-M...and she is still telling me to wait another week or two..

When I called the call center, the rep told me there is no special unit...and I asked my lawyer about this but she said she has heard of this in the past..

Terribly confused right now..
