Subject: Immigration Experts!
  Hi

I am currently putting together my application to emmigrate to Canada from England. I was just wondering whether people would recommend making my application through an emigration expert agency? Do you think the additional cost is worth it. Also anyone know what likely process times are like in England?

Cheers

Do not hire a agent and instead save your money for you when you arrive in canada. Additional costs that you pay to the agents are not worth it as they just ask you to arrange all the documents yourself. All they´ll do is fill up the forms for you and sent it alongwith the supporting documents. and ofcouse will charge you something worth a fortune :-). Beleive me, filling up the forms and arranging supporting docs is no rocket science really!

England processing times are posted on the CIC website.

I agree with HappyGuy.

I spent 1500 USD, to submit my application thru´ an agency.
You can always do that online, don´t waste ur money.
Make sure you have the checklist and submit ur docs directly.

most angencies DO NOT even fill out the forms for you. they sipmly "correct" them after you do. about collecting the documents, well that can be done only by the client anyway.
There is one I know of that reallt takes care of te client and fills out the forms for them.

Do as you wish and good luck

Hi Stephen,

Here is my take on this.

Choosing an agent or not very much depends upon your comfort level. Sometimes people choose an agent because they want to ensure that there is someone qualified and knowledgeable about the immigration process. Canada immigration is a very open and a very very well documented process. There are a lot of forums with people who have been through a similar joy ride and they are more than willing to share their experiences and details. As I mentioned earlier, the Canadian immigration website is very detailed in terms of providing information on the process and filling out the application forms. In situations where questions and/or doubts may arise, people usually use their common-sense and resort to forums seeking help.

The second thing that I would like to mention is to stay on top of the process and be aware of changes in the immigration laws etc. if any. Again, if you make regular visits to the forum and the Canada immigration websites in general, you will be fairly comfortable.

A good agent, if you can get hold of one and be assured of that, will turn out to be a very helpful resource. While you will have to pay money for the services, a good agent will be proactive in getting you prepared in terms of document submissions and answering your questions so as to resolve any ambiguities. You can also be assured that you have someone authorized/knowledgeable to fall back on for your questions or changes in situations. You will be comforted that there is someone who will double-check your details and ensure that you are not missing out anything. Also, in case of queries from CIC if any, or, an interview, you will have some help.

However, it is important to note that a agent, whoever it may be, will never be able to influence or change the immigration process. Once your documents reach the CIC, they are beyond his/her control.

Finally, it will be your decision to make. You will have to do a lot of study anyways and be ready to commit yourself to the research and knowledge gathering process to stay on top of your case when submitting and after that.

Please remember one thing - irrespective of you choosing an agent or doing it yourself, you will have to be very meticulous in preparation and submission of information, very proactive in gathering required documentation at different stages of the application (Fingerprinting, Medicals, English proficiency tests) and steadfast in knowing what to expect next. IMHO, delays are most caused by the lack of these. Good luck. Hope it helps!
