Subject: IELTS

Dear friends
I got my M.Sc Degree in Mechanical Engineering in April 1994, I wrote my thesis in English and it was published in that time. Knowing that most thesises were written in our native language but for the reason of my subject was consist of Computer Modeling and computer programs included it was recommended by advisers to write in English.
If I submit my thesis as a language ability document instead of IELTS dose this work??
I will be thankful.

It´s better to take your IELTS if you come from a country where English is not the main language (eg. India, China). I didn´t expect to be asked to take the test either but I was asked to do it and now it is delaying things by about 6 months. Dont risk it. Just do the test and give your self some peace of mind. Not doing the IELTS is my biggest regret in this whole PR process.

Submitting thesis is one of a good way to proof your writing and perhaps reading abilities. But, keep in mind that you still have to proof your speaking and listening abilities if you do not take IELTS. Hope this help.

Sometimes it helps if you have proofs of participating in international English-speaking conferences, professional meetings, poster or oral presentations in English, ect. Also it may be useful to submit letter with your application, explaining details of your English language proficiency. Otherwise it is wise to take IELTS:)

My friend did his MS from Australia, still was asked to take IELTS; considering the fact that IELTS is conducted thru Australia :)

On the other hand, I am glad they asked him to take the exam because his English suck big time, I even wonder how he was able to do his masters from Australia. As expected he got poor scores of 5 -6 in all the bands; he still is able to muster 67 points because of his masters and close relative in canda :)

One of my friend did his PhD from an English speaking country. submitted proofs of his education in English, copies of his published articles in peer reviewed international journal, letters from his supervisors, nothing worked in his case and he was asked to take IELTS test.
I did the same when I submitted my application but after looking at his situation I just wrote the IELTS test and submitted it afterwards. I think CIC should make this rule very clear now by stating that if English is not your native language please take the test. Fair for everbody.
