Subject: Police Certificate from India
I´m in the US and have been asked to submit police clearance from US and India. I have done for US, how do I get from India? Is it safe to send passport to the Indian Embassy? Please confirm if anyone else has done and what is the procedure?

Hi,
You need to contact your local Indian consulate office. They have this service available for $20 but it takes 30 full days. I got mine done and I do not see any problem t here.

UR situation is same as mine. I am in US and I have my family working on this from Delhi, India. The SP office is having a form which needs photocopy of the passport and they provide the PPC in 10-15 days.

Hope this helps !!

I suppose there is a form for PCC that is available in ur local SP office. Fill out the form and attach the proff of residence ie Passport.

The processing normally takes around 10-15 days.

U can see instructions at SF Indian consulate site (in reply to: Police Certificate from India)
Hi,
I got mine done as per instructions below and it was one of the most easy things. Contact ur local Indian consulate. All consulates have this under misc. services. My strong feeling is that people living here in US should always get it done through consulate..rather than exploring options from India...

Hi
I appilied for police certificate from India through Indian Embassy in Tehran, Iran, on 29th June 2005 and still I have not received any reply. I followed up the problem through the Indian Embassy and they said that they have already sent two follow up letters on the issue and received no reply yet. They were saying that the Embassy is the only channel to get police certificate. Now it is almost three month passed from the date of my applying. Can any one provide a comment on this matter.

Hi,
I lived in India for 6 years and the last time I went to Mumbai to apply for my PCC, they tole me it would take 6 months! but then they said my letetr was lost somewhere on the way! Now after 1 and half years I´m going to apply through the embassy here in Tehran. But is there anyone telling me how long it would take bcz if it takes more than a month, it wouldn´t be valid anymore!
