Thanks a lot for taking your time helping.
REGARDING THE PREVIOUS POST OF GETTING THE PR CARD

Brian: can you tell me why it is better to stay there for 2 or 3 days?
PPRwait: I had been to canada with my own car years ago. What get involved for using my own car? About the SIN card, do I sign up at the port of entrance or somewhere else and do I have to wait there for it? If I dont have to wait for it. I assume that the SIN card will be sent to the address in Canada as the PR card. In that case, are they coming together or not? How important the SIN card is? since I will not be able to move to canada any time soon.

I appreciate you input very much.
Best regard

Man, it is just what I think would be right, if you immediately make a U turn will that not lead to suspicion ?

This is what I am planning to do, once I land in Canada,
stay with my friend for a week apply of PR card and SIN number, it takes about 4-6 weeks for these to arrive.
Visit other places like Vancouver, Novo Scoti. if I don´t get the card and sin number in 4 weeks, return back to US.
My friend will courier it to me in US once he receives it

Hi Allen,

It is important on what status did you go to canada with your own car. If you had been to canada earlier on a visitor visa status then it has nothing to do with your current status when you are landing. If you go to land with your own car, you will have to complete the formalities for your own car in Canada - like registration, modifications to your car, other checks, etc. And all this has to be done in 45 days otherwise they will send you letter asking you to pay a penalty.

From what I have heard, you should be able to apply for your SIN from the border post. But I am sure it will vary from post to post. The best thing would be to go to a SIN office in the city where you are landing and get it done.

No, SIN card and PR card will take different times to arrive.

The SIN card is very important because thats your first step to getting you in the system. Everything that follows will start from your SIN card. Getting a driver´s license, finding a job, opening a bank account etc. etc. will all require a SIN card.

Even if you are not going to move immediately to Canada, its best to apply for the SIN card at the earliest. I plan to land in March, come back and move in July. However, I will apply for my SIN card as soon as I land.
