Just for your information, this is not mine, but I thought other people may find it rather helpful.

I applied as an inland spouse so I didn´t get AOP from Vegreville. I think you are getting confused. If you apply from outside, you get AOP but it´s from Mississauga. If you applied under the common law categaory, I am assuming you applied inland like me. You won´t get AOP. You´ll get the AIP (approval in principle). I did send the medical upfront. I don´t think you have a choice now. I applied in August and I had to wait 209 days before I got my AIP (but it was exactly what the Estimated Processing times had suggested as a timeline). It´s pretty accurate. The number of days went drastically down. It´s down to 159 days now.
It´s normal that you haven´t heard from them. I didn´t hear anything until they updated my e-client to say that the AIP and a decision made letter had been sent. I got both at the same time. Because it took so long (more than 200 days), I got ther final decision made at the same time. They had had plenty of time to do the background checks and there was nothing wrong with my medicals. It took about 10 days to receive the letters. I then decided to pay a little visit to my local office to see if I should apply for a work permit. They scheduled me for the week after!!!
I went for more than 6 months without hearing anything. But it´s good if you don´t, it means there is nothing wrong with your application.

With your AIP and a letter from Vegreville saying that you passed the medicals, you can apply for OHIP (medical coverage for Ontario). If you are in another province, you might already be covered.

Once you have your landing interview (which is not an interview at all), you then have to wait until you get your Permanent resident card before you can get your SIN number and until you work
Hope that helped
Stephanie
