Subject: Working VISA in Canada
Can a Tourist VISA in Canada be changed to Working VISA if one finds work. And if so, how long will the working VISA be?? can it be renewed?

Nope, it cannot be changed into any study or work visa.

You have to either study first, or have a HRSDC approved job offer letter to get a work permit from abroad.

For details, visit CIC site: www.cic.gc.ca

You have to either study first??? Does this mean you must enter Canada as a student??

I would go to the cic web site. They have all the information there about visas.

Hypothetically (in reply to: Working VISA in Canada)
One can enter Canada as Tourist ... look for a job and when he/she finds one step out to the U.S. to get Working VISA stamped on passport and then enter Canada with a Working VISA?

Jowsie, I think your latest post will apply when you are a US citizen. Under NAFTA, you can find work in Canada and apply for a TN visa at a border post. There is only a limited number of professions that you can apply for this visa under and the visa is issued for one year at a time.

If you are not a US citizen, you will have to get your job offer validated by HRSDC (takes about 2 months) and then apply for a work visa at a Canadian diplomatic mission abroad. It could take you another 2 months depending on your citizenship and the workload at the consulate/embassy. The work visa, again, is issued for one year. Not sure what needs to be done for it to be extended beyond that time.

So my sis-in-law wants to go here to Houston and look for work anywhere in the U.S. But I am expecting our PR in Canada late this year or early next year ... we are looking for an option for her to follow us immidiately in case she could not find work here...

What can we do??

I am not an expert but your sister should probably apply for a Canadian PR as soon as she gets to the US. Make sure she has all the docs and they are in order. I assume she is not a US citizen. Great if she finds work in the States with a company that has a Canadian office with a possibility to get transferred there... or stay there, the US is not a bad place afterall...
