Has anyone here ever taken the Canada Foreign Service Exam? How did you do on SJT, GRT and WCPT? I did a 70/100 on the SJT, 41/55 on GRT, and 44/50 on the WCPT. What portion did you find most difficult? How much did you study? Has anyone here passed? Did anyone taken it on February 11th for the immigration stream?

You need to be a Canadian citizen in order to take the exam and work as a foreign service officer representing Canada´s interests abroad.

Hello,
participated in the FS recruitment for the past 7 years and just got through. I scored 91/100 on the SJT, 50/55 on GRT, and 50/50 on the WCPT.
However, the tough part is the interviews - I qualified every year for the interview portion and never managed to pass (till now!).

What was most difficult in the selection is the fact that DFAIT and CIC never provide detailed feedback on the reasons why one does not pass the selection.

One should also understand that the cutoff scores are not pre-set. DFAIT sets the scores after applications have been received with the objective of interviewing 4-6% of candidates to retain approximately 0.5% of the candidatures, if they qualify.

There have been years (2007, for example) when DFAIT aimed at hiring 72 new FS officers, but only qualified 51 (and they had received over 12 thousand applications).

I know that for 2008 the qualified pool is composed of 39 new hires out of 13,638 applications (I asked).

Also be aware that the FSE has been abolished. A combination of tests designed to evaluate the merit criteria is now used in its stead.

Good luck!

Hello FRC,

Those are some rather impressive scores for the PSR exams!
Have you successfully passed and finished the entire recruitment process for the 2008-2009 recruitment and have been hired?

The 39 hires out of the 13638 applications, are they from the 2007-2008 recruitment or 2008-2009 recruitment drive?

Either way, congratulations on your results!
