Subject: help:can I postpone my migration
my application process is completed and they ask me to send my passport . However , I am not ready to move to cnd now. I will by the end of next year. while I am waiting for the application early last year,I got a 3 year job contract. it´s 1.5 years to go from now.

I know that once my passport is stamped I can´t get extension, but how about if I ask extension BEFORE the stamp???

is it possible to postpone my migration to canada? I am planning to go to buffalo and explain the whole thing. I am gonna ask for extension/postpone. I know that I am not required to move to canada right away, just go there first to claim the pr, but that I can´t do becuase I have some US visa issue. if I leave US I can´t get in again. all I need is just more time.(end next year I will move)

Visa validity is fixed and cannot be extended except for special cases. If extension is granted, it is only good for a shorter period maybe 2 to 3 months. You have to make an ultimate decision between Canada and USA now. If you don´t want to go through the pains and anxieties in acquiring Canadian visa then go and land in Canada.

Juan,

If I were you, I get my passport stamped and visit Canada for a weekend, then come back to where you are working. You can do this even during the weekend. You don´t have to stay in Canada. You just enter the country and then leave.

The important thing is to get your PR card (which they will send to you in 30 days after the day you entered Canada). Once you get this you can be in and out Canada with no problem at all.

Good luck!

Receiving PR....... (in reply to: help:can I postpone my migration)
Hi Anonymous!
If you get your passport stamped and visit Canada for a weekend and then leave Canada, how would you receive your
PR card? Do they send it to the address in the country
you are staying? or you will have to stay in Canada for 30 days?

Thanks

Juan can´t enter Canada and return to U.S. in one day because he specifically stated he can´t re-enter U.S. once he leaves (US visa issues).

Juan, contracts are negotiable. Are you concerned with a breach of employment contract or merely having to forgo some earnings under the contract? If it is just a matter of money, 1 year is not going to make it or break it for you; Canadian PR, on the other hand, is a different story. I would not risk it.

If it is a matter of getting sued for a breach of contract, re-negotiate, explain the situation, see if there is an alternative solution or a contract loop hole. If you let your employer know ahead of time, they have enough time to recruit and train a new person and there are nlikely to have damages for the company to sue you on.

Besides, it is easier to negotiate with your employer than with Canadian consulate :)
