Subject: PR Status
  Hi
After obtaining the Canadian PR in 1992, I migrated to Canada for few months. However, due to family commitment and job opportunity at the time, I moved to Australia. I have not returned to Canada since then is my PR status still valid? If it is no longer valid, can I re-apply for an immigration visa? Please advice and many thanks

Bruce, I know that now the immigration rules state that when you receive the PR, you need to spend a certain amount of time (I think at least half the time) in Canada for 5 years. Not sure how things were in 1992 though. Now the case is if you don´t you must go through the process again - maybe someone else knows differently.

Bruce to maintain your PR you have to stay in Canada for 2 years out of a total of 5 years. As you have not done that I am sorry to say you are no longer PR of Canada. You will have to apply all over again.

But I strongly suggest that you cansult a good immigration lawyer as s/he can give you the best advice.
