I need a guarantor to sign a passport photo for my hubbys passport
(in canada family class)
but he has only been here 1 year and doesnt know anyone for that long(2 yrs).
So how do we get a signature? Shouldnt there be a form for us saying that we do not have a guarantor? Can we mail his photos to the states for someone to seign then get them to mail them back to us?
I called this U.S. Embassy information lines:
1-900-451-2778 from within Canada found on the website website and they said we HAVE to get it signed no matter what
anyone have this happen to them?
there should be a form for stuff like this if we do not know anyone...
please help if you know what to do about this

(in reply to: guarantor to sign a passport photo???) I had that problem for the same reason but I got around it by getting my in-law´s attorney (or similar) to sign. He hadn´t known me two years but my in-laws had (and they have known the lawyer for years and years) so they reassured him that I was who I claimed I was. :-) Is there anyone who could help you in this way?
By the way, I´d advise not to send it in Canada because it takes seemingly FOREVER and is extremely frustrating not to be able to work for 7 months...

(in reply to: guarantor to sign a passport photo???) not to send what in canada? lol
ok so. heres the deal. I was reading the passport application it says
"IF YOU CANNOT PROVIDE DOCUMENT EVIDENCE OF IDENTITY as stated above, you must appear with an IDENTIFYING WITNESS who is
a U.S. citizen, non U.S. citizen national, or permanent resident alien who has known you for at least 2 years. Your witness must prove his or her
identity and complete and sign an Affidavit of Identifying Witness (Form DS-71) before the acceptance agent. You must also submit some
identification of your own."
does that not say I can sign saying I know who my husband is and I do no have to find a guarantor? We seriously do not know anyone like this in or out of Canada/USA.
I am not even positive i need this guarantor....

(in reply to: guarantor to sign a passport photo???) Not to send the application in-Canada. Do it to Buffalo, it´s much quicker.
Does it not say that family isn´t allowed to sign? Normally that´s the case, for passports and so on. If that´s all it says, then sure, sign it and prove who you are. Your husband must know SOMEONE in the US for at least 2 years, so send it to them or do it yourself!
