Hi All,
I will be landing in Vancouver soon, and thinking of doing PhD in education, financially I have enough capital to survive in canada and support my child who will be doing her BA for at least three years but I just wonder lets say if somehow I run out of money while doing my PHD.. then is there any kind of autority that can support me until I finish my education and find a job...

Thanks for your replies in advance...

Its strange that you are actually paying for your PHD. Most PHD students are on grants or TA. Anyways, am pretty sure your daughter may qualify for student loan.

Hey Abijan thanks for your reply but I will happy if you very polite explain what you mean when you say most students are ´grants´ or ´TA´ ..do you mean supported by the university ? (where they are doing their PhD or got a kind of loan from somewhere else" i would be happy if you can be specific about this, and also how can she get a student loan , where from ? bank ? uni ? or ministry of education or any offical gov body??

You can apply for a PhD scholarship or research assistantship. Go to the website of uni you are interested in and find out the projects best suited to your background. Contact the prof supervising that project. If you he finds that you are the most suitable candidate for his project then he might offer you a part time RA/TA position. In this way you can register as PhD student and work as a part time RA/TA. Other option is to directly apply for a PhD scholarship, but remember these scholarships are very competitive and you need a very strong educational and research background to win one.

Good luck

Not only you will get salary from the school/project, but your tuition will be very low as well. So, you should definitely seek research/teaching assistantship positions. In any case, you need a project and advisor to complete your thesis. Why should you pay while they can pay you?
