Subject: Does anyone ever lose their PR?
  Hello,

I am considering applying for PR in Canada. My questions are:

1. I guess you have to live for 3 yrs out of 5 yrs to apply for citizenship. What if I fail to live there for that long. Do I lose my PR?

2. Do I have to apply for citizenship? Can I not always be a PR of Canada?

Thanks so much.

1. Yes you can lose your status as a permanent resident if you fail to meet the required conditions

2. You dont have to apply for citizenship, but you won´t be allowed to vote in Canadian elections and you won´t get a Canadian passport (if you are currently a citizen of India for eg. and you are a Permanent resident but not a citien you´ll still need visas to visit most countries). It´s better to travel with a Canadian passport

Sheena!
If you have already passport from countries like England you don´t have to change your citizenship. It´s just prudent to recieve PR to have more possibilities in Canada. Othewise Canadian citizenship is very reliable and troublefree piece of paper in order to travel, work and live a good life.

Thanks for the replies. Guess should have been more specific.

Is it possible to visit Canada for few weeks but work in the US but still not lose the PR? Will I be eligible for citizenship after the 4 yrs?
I am ok with having my primary residence in Canada but work in the US on H1.

What are the required conditions that you need to meet with in order not to lose the PR.

Thanks so much guys :)

I have the somewhat of the same question. If you live in Canada can you work in the US with a Canadian PR?
