Subject: How could I stay living in Canada once I am there?
  Hello to everyone!.
I am a cuban scientist, a biochemist. I am 24 years old and I live in Havana City. I would like to know if there is a way to stay living in Canada once I am visiting the country. If I have a tourist VISA let us say for three months, and I would like to stay living in some canadian province, what should I do?. Is it better if I can get an employment offert?. I also know both English and French.
I thank you a lot for any information.
David

David,

Looks like you are starting from zero. Try www.cic.gc.ca

Your knowlegde of languages is very helpfull. If you are already in Canada you can go and talk to some professors at the University to start some degree or to work as assistant professor (you are scientist, right?). It is good to try different departments close to your biochemistry field. Then if you have proovable experience and good recomendations from previouse work and face to face agreement with university stuff it is easier to apply to the university degree programm. As usual you will not need to pay as many professors have already financial grants. And you will have later the opportunity to apply for your own grant. Then after the admittance or work proposal at the laboratory or department you can apply for a student/work permit and get one within a couple of months. I´m not sure but may be you will need to leave Canada to recieve your new visa and permit (not sure). Also if you are young and have a couple of year from your previous degree it will be an asset. So you need recommendations, spoken language, interest in the field of work or study and much talk with the professors stuff. Everything is possible. Good luck!

Olga, I think you misunderstood the post. If he is in Canada on a visit visa, he cannot stay on or take up employment (nor enrol in studies for that matter). Unless he´s looking at the illegal route, which I hope he isn´t.

cic.gc.ca is the place to start.

Sorry, you misunderstood me. I mean go and make arrangements. Not take up employment. You can always talk and ask, do you? Then after preapproved agreement you can start legal immigration process. It was my sugesstion. Nothing else, and I know that this plan could work.

Another thing I know well what does that mean to be a true scientist and wish to work effectively. Only civilized countries unfortunately have these possibilities but there are a lot of talented scientists in the whole world. That is why i suggest to try all the legal opportunities to make dream come true.

If you are a clinical biochemist then you have good prospects anywhere around the world including Canada. From your age it seems that you have just finished your BS or MS. If that?s the case try to update your education. Before coming to canada on visit visa try to search for the possible places to work or study in your chosen field. If you are planning to move to Canada permanently then in your case best scenario would be to enroll in a research programme. And simultaneously (if you already have one year experience in your field) apply for canadian PR. If not then work for a year in canada and apply for PR. Use your visit for looking the best opportunities for yourself.
You cant stay more than six months in Canada if your coming as a visitor.

Good luck
