Subject: What is CAIPS?
Hello, first of all, thanks everyone here for help (especially Catocan, AB and waiting and waiting). have couple of questions here for you, thanks in advance!

Does anyone know about CAIPS? I intend to inquire my file status, but don´t know how. Just fax is enough?

Does anyone know if there´s phone NO. in Buffalo which can be reached for status inquiry?

How to know if i´m under background investigation or not? should they inform me of this by letter or not?

I applied under SW category from Canada, and my timeline is as follows:

Aug,2004: submitted application
Oct,2004: got file no.
Apr,2005: be notified of interview waiver, medical exam, and submit supplemental docs
May,2005: submitted all required docs and medical result
Oct,2005: be advised that they?re still waiting for one of my docs (actually, i submitted in May of 2005 already), letter stamped with word "Final"
Nov,2005: submitted doc required 2nd time by express

However, till now, no any info from Immigration.

waiting seems to be endless.

yes almost 1 year is really abnormal, you definitely should order CAIPS, they said it is something like a coded summary of your application extracted from your file in CIC database. If your Immigration officer encoded useful info in your file, you may find out what´s really wrong with your application, sometimes it is useful, sometimes not and just full of generic data. Background and security check is definitely after IA stage. In my opinion, there should be something wrong with one of your documents that they asked for you a 2nd time. Its either they´re having trouble verifying if its true, or some info is missing from this document. What is this document anyway "anxious"?

Here´s some info about how to obtain your CAIPS notes yourself for free, or almost-free, depending on whether you know someone in Canada:

http://immigrationguides.com/first_steps/obtain_your_caips_notes_for_free.html

Or you can use the pricier option and get them through one of at least a half-dozen sites that offer the service, including caips.ca or caipsnotes.com

CAIPS is the abbreviation of Computer Aid Immigration Processing System. It is one of numerous computer processing systems used by Citizenship and Immigration of Canada to standarize the processing of immigration applications.

Rachael,

Not to criticize, buy why would any thinking person need to pay extra for your "services". Unless they´re physically or mentally challenged, people can readily and easily find their own real estate agents, buy a car, locate the drivers licence facility, order telephone service, get a bank account, and apply for SIN card.

But then if people are so incapable on this level, they have no business immigrating in trying to start a new life.
