Subject: Finally Landed in Canada!!! Here is my experience
  Hi guy
I finally landed in Canada with my family on 3rd April.Below I wil describe my situation .
I am currently wrking in USA and I am in 6th year of my H1B expiring in Dec 06. I had visa stamped (ist time from India) which expired on oct 03.I had next 3 year extension with I 94 attached o my H1b approval notice.

Here is what I did.
1. I took a flight to detroit.Took a rental car from the airport and drove to detroit -windsor tunnel.
2. On reaching the tunnel I paid the toll and drove through the tunnel to reach the canadian side.
3.Once I reached the booth the office there asked me the purpose of my visit..He then asled me to show the papers of my rental car.
he asked me following questions.
a. Show me your landing papers?
1.how long are you going to stay in canada ? 2 days
2.where are you heading for? toronto
3.when are you going to import your own car and how many of them? 2 cars . I dont have a clar title at this time.I wil work on it and complete all the formalities before moveing to canada.
4.when you plan to move? 6 months
5.How much money you have? $USD18000 + $600 cash
6.do you carry any firearms ? No
7.Are you carrying the list of good to follow? Yes
He filled up all the onformation on a yellow slip and directed me towards to immigration/customs room. I parked my car and went in. There was no one other then me and the officers. It was a very casual enviornment.
The imigration officer came. I handed him the documents and passport. he made some enteries and asked me to have a seat. he completed all the documentation in 20 minutes
Heasked us for the address and had us signed the papers. We then went to customes..who took our list and stamped them.Told us to have the list with us oncewe move to canada. We were all done. Officer told me that he has stamped my passport as Permanent residednt and I can ener from US as many time by road only till my PR get arrives which takes about 2 months.

Then I proceeded to City hall which is behind this building accross the road.Filled up the SIN card for all of us and I was all done. She said we should get the cards in 6-8 weeks.

We changed the currencey..went accross the street into a resturant and had our first canadian meal as a "PR"..it was a very emotional and great feeling....

Then picked up my car from the parling lot and went towards US tunnel..paid the toll in Canadian dollars..drove through the tunnel to reach theUS side. At the check point handed the offices passports and 194 cards. He asked me what my purpose of visit was to canada? I said we landed today
He asked when will i be moving? I said before dec 06
He asked for H1B approval notices for all of us. I gave him all of them.He went over them casually and handed over the entire stuff to us and told us to go.I finally drve back to USA..

Hope this would help people who are in similar situation like me...
Good luck to you all!!!!

Catch22,

In what form was the "$USD18000" and did they ask you to show proof?

Hi Catch22,
Thanks for sharing about your successful landing experience. I got a question about your re-entry to U.S. As per your details I understand that you have valid H1B approval notice valid up to Dec 20006 with the I-94 and expired visa. Does this mean it is fine to re-enter U.S with expired H1B visa, along with the valid H1B approval notice and I-94. In other forums I read that we need to have valid H1B visa along with the H1B approval with I-94. I apologize for repeating this question if it is answered earlier discussions.
